... to quote the manic street preachers. I received this email a couple of days back. Makes sense. It's long, sorry! Thoughts??
------------------------------------------------------------------------

The price of oil is as low as it has been for a while, the oil companies have simply jacked their prices up and the government will not do anything as they rake in extra VAT for every increase.

See what you think and pass it on if you agree with it

We are hitting 119.9 a litre in some areas now, soon we will be faced with paying 1.50 a ltr. Philip Hollsworth offered this good idea:

This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the 'don't buy petrol on a certain day campaign that was going around last April or May! The oil companies just laughed at that because they knew we wouldn't continue to hurt ourselves by refusing to buy petrol. It was more of an inconvenience to us than it was a problem for them. BUT,whoever thought of this idea, has come up with a plan that can really work.

Please read it and join in!

Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us to think that the cost of a litre is CHEAP, we need to take aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS control the market place not sellers. With the price of petrol going up more each day, we consumers need to take action. The only way we are going to see the price of petrol come down is if we hit someone in the pocket by not purchasing their Petrol! And we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves. Here's the idea:

For the rest of this year DON'T PURCHASE ANY petrol FROM the two biggest oil companies (which now are one), ESSO and BP.

If they are not selling any petrol, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit. But to have an impact we need to reach literally millions of Esso and BP petrol buyers. It's really simple to do!!

Now, don't wimp out at this point... keep reading and I'll explain how simple it is to reach millions of people!!

I am sending this note to a lot of people. If each of you send it to at least ten more (30 x 10 = 300)... and those 300 send it to at least ten more (300 x 10 = 3,000) ... and so on, by the time the message reaches the sixth generation of people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION consumers! If those three million get excited and pass this on to ten friends each, then 30 million people will have been contacted! If it goes one level further, you guessed it... ...

THREE HUNDRED MILLION PEOPLE!!!

PLEASE HOLD OUT UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES TO THE 90p a LITRE RANGE

It's easy to make this happen. Just forward this email, and BUY your petrol at Shell, Asda,Tesco, Sainsburys, Morrisons Jet etc.

BOYCOTT ESSO and BP.

I think its a great idea... pick a company, and a start date, and do it for a week.

300 million people? I know there's been a bit of illegal immigration but 300 million people... sorry, couldn't help myself

Where does the exchange rate come into this? The $-to-£ rate is highly unfavourable for low prices at the moment.

However, I do think we should be having a pop at the Govt. In addition to fuel duty, they get VAT on the lot. The recent 1p duty increase amounts to 1.175p when VAT is added.

Oh, and yeah...... there is little black moustache on this one but I can't be bothered to look for the previous post.

LOL, ROLF, and HAHAHA

The public in general don't have the resolve. They won't do it, because they won't believe anybody else is doing it, and they think they can't make a difference alone. Also as soon as Esso and BP drop their prices to 5p less than the supermarkets, customers will be back in droves.

But that price doesn't fit the system - so it will be rounded up to 5p.

First saw these mails about 5 years ago. The figures have changed but the wording is exactly the same. They had no effect back then, and they're having no effect now. It's just junk mail, so set your spam filter to chuck it.

well, much as the Landy ticks every box that we require it to do within our family, we were having a discussion about petrol yesterday. Its got to 1.20 at some places here. Now four months ago, we could fill her up for 60 quid and get between 250 to 300 miles.....its now an extra twenty quid to fill her up :-(

We really don't want to get rid of our waggon, but the petrol is rediculous. We're hoping and praying it'll go down before MOT and tax later in the year is due...cause we'll have to wave her goodbye. Much to some people saying we told you so..

So, can anyone come up with a bio-diesel SV and we'll all run down the chippy at the weekend! Sacrilege!

As to getting lots of people to do the same thing, you need to be a totalitarian dictator. Otherwise, the more people there are, the more people think 'ah, someone else'll do it'. That's why if a girl is being attacked in a neighbouhood, she should shout 'fire' not 'help'. People are selfish, they'd get out of bed for a fire....
