Had one of those calls yesterday morning.

Was up till silly o'clock feeding family, and trying to make 'em smile.

Back to the hospital today to sit and wait.

Please, someone make me smile.

Hope all goes well.

Well, it made someone laugh, if not smile, at the absurdity of it all.

Hey Bri,

I don't know you too well, but you have always been nice on here.
I am sorry to hear that things are tough for you right now.

As for making you smile, I am afraid that I am horribly common, so if this makes you smile, I dread to think what that says about you!

Bri :-( Night time calls are the worst and I sincerely hope that the news has got better throughout the day.

If it hasn't, then I hope that the thoughts and prayers from all those that care can at least help to take the edge off the pain.

Instead of posting something funny or grunting or giggling, which are my normal responses, I shall give you this instead...

Saw the Consultant a short while ago.

Lung cancer(diagnosed 3 weeks back), and now in the kidneys, and in the brain. An expectation of less than a week. It's my Unlce, and my cuz is just falling apart.

Last night we fed my cuz, the first meal he'd had for a few days. Then got him smashed, and played on the Wii till the early hours.

I guess I've reached that age when the older generation in the family are queuing on the edge of the cliff like lemmings. This will be the 6th "oldie" in 3 1/2 years. At least I won't need the order of service when we go to the crem - gallows humour I know but....

Thank god I have my superb athleticism, and vibrant good health :-D

Waffling now - thanks everyone, i'll go ...

Bri, it doesn't matter how many times you go through this, it never gets any easier. We can become more aware of how we and our loved ones cope, making it slightly less unknown, but it's still you and your loved ones losing someone that you love, so take some time for yourself as well as giving it to others.

Thoughts are with you all...whether we hear much from you over the coming days/weeks or not.

Lots of these :grouphug::grouphug::grouphug:

Bri... as I said earlier I hope your vigil isn`t too drawn out and with that diagnosis I hope your poor uncle doesn`t linger too long. As for the family you all need to take time to re-charge your batteries as it`s going to be a very tough and emotionally demanding time for you all so take that time, support each other and you`ll get through this.

I hope any symptoms of the cancer are well controlled and his passing is peaceful and dignified. Take care all of you x

For what it's worth, lung cancer got my grandad too. But he was a tough old b***ard and had been smoking since he was 7 or 8. So, not too surprising.

After he went there was an inquest into the amount of morphine used on his ward. We think it was because he'd been off his face continuously for two or three weeks. I hope your uncle goes equally peacefully.

Keith.

Sounds more likely that he was extremely sensitive to morphine... is quite common but it is usually tri-trated now so there`s no danger of somebody being given too high a dose.

I suspect that being a tough old git he lasted rather longer than expected and consequently developed substantial tolerance to the analgesic effect of morphine. So larger doses were needed to control his pain. This meant he was quite often intoxicated.

These days I'm sure there are better alternatives, but given the choice I'd rather spend my last couple of weeks as a complete junkie than lie there suffering.

Went through that with my dad about 4 years ago - not good - my thoughts go out to you and I know what you mean about the older generation - we lost 8 out of 10 of them in the space of 10 years. It is one of the crosses we have to bear as we get older.

Doesn't make it any fardling easier though
