Hi all :)

Been riding for a year - started on my little Ninja 250r and just swapped over for an SV 3 weeks ago. Loving it so far, even if it does take a bit of getting used to! Nothing like doing a long weekend to York and Wales to build up a relationship though :)

Hope to meet some of you soon so people on other forums stop taking the **** out of me for "crossing over to the dark side"!

Hello and welcome to the Org.

Watch out for perverts (those who ride other brands of bikes and curveys) and enjoy your SV.

Hugs Jayne

Ooh hang on, you do ride a pointy don't you? :D

Welcome to the madhouse. As you can see we've used up our quota of 'sensible' for this year, so it's all downhill from here. :)

lol I suppose I should update my profile a bit!

Kellyjo - am in Wimbledon so frequent Boxhill a fair bit. Guess people here are from all over the UK?

ChrisSV - definitely! However, having done about 1500 miles in 3 weekends and just about getting used to how far I can push her on cornering, I have just lowered the bike (in an effort to keep it rubber side down when stopping!! :smt053) and it now feels like riding a completely different bike! Oh well :) At least summer's nearly here :-P

Davepreston / Paul the 6th - have booked 10 days in June for Scotland! Really looking forward to it :D :D Paul - you'll have to let us know what the roads are like there!

Jayneflakes - assuming you mean a newer model, rather than the older, more rounded ones, yep, am on a pointy! :smt004

Once you meet a few .org'ers and hang around this forum a bit, you won't be needing those people or their "other forums" anymore. ;)

Just watch this thread shoot up to 5million pages because it's a new girl and not a bloke!!

While this may be true...
It's not our fault all the .org lasses don't post up when a new bloke comes 'round. ;)

I'll get me coat.....

lol So... should I assume I need to keep an eye on Rideouts & Meetings for *ahem* rideouts and meetings? :-P Also (and I hope this isn't a silly question) do the rideouts tend to be wobbler-ish-friendly? Still getting used to the bike so won't want to be pushing it too hard beyond my comfort zone!

Org rideout are indeed wobbler friendly. Keep an eye out on that section, and doing a bit of translation I am assuming you are in wimbledon in South London. In which case keep an eye out on the soho section, or indeed come down to soho once and say hello.

Welcome to the org.

So you are coming up to Scotland in June? Are you coming to the GM at the end of June?

The roads are great up here.

Not sure what the GM is, but no - will be going with some mates from a different forum. Renting a cottage and riding out from there! Can't wait :) :) :)

noice, back from scotland last night - was meant to be out for dan's (irksy) stag do in leeds.....

"I'll just rest my eyes for half an hour then drive down there......" zzzzzzzzzz.............

that was at 8pm when I got home, woke up at half 3 this morning!!! Feck!

Roads were good - I was staying in dunbar (only like 20-30 miles over the wrong side of the border) but did this route... (http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=Unknown+road&daddr=A1+to:A198+to:A198+to:A199%2FLinkfield+Rd+to :A7+to:A6091+to:A697+to:A697+to:Unknown+road+to:55 .951891,-2.3909&hl=en&geocode=FaTpVQMd9kvb_w%3BFQxQVgMdpzLY_w%3BFX1dVwMd JDbX_w%3BFWWMVgMdWB3U_w%3BFXapVQMdqK7R_w%3BFUKsUwM dxynS_w%3BFdJXUAMdDKDW_w%3BFcv3UQMd6Mra_w%3BFTAcUQ MdIW_d_w%3BFV4YUgMd_NLc_w%3B&gl=uk&mra=dme&mrcr=0&mrsp=10&sz=11&via=1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9&sll=55.862212,-2.343521&sspn=0.266266,0.799942&ie=UTF8&ll=55.861441,-2.342834&spn=1.065084,3.199768&z=9) Not exactly a grand tour of scotland but I was only stopping for 2 days.

A7 was good, as were the back roads between galashiels and coldstream but jesus christ, they don't half put speed cameras in some weird places up there! Nice twisty road, got stuck behind 3 cars with the front one towing a caravan, the road straightened out onto a nice half mile long straight so I gunned past the lot of them & thought "Well I've got her singing now, I'm in the middle of no where, just a little bit more :)............. oh shiiiiiiite there's a speed camera!!!!"

I was still bedding my new front pads & discs in but managed to pass the camera at about 64mph while still braking!

If the weather's good and you've got a map then I'm sure you'll have a great time :) oh and watch out for the wild haggis! I nearly hit one as it ran out of a hedge! Think it was chasing after a quorn mebbeh?

LOL! Thanks Paul :) Will keep the cameras and animals in mind! We'll be staying in a cottage in Fort William & Lochaber, which is sort of West Scotland, I think... so away from the A7, but may venture that way anyway! After all, 10 days is quite a long time to explore, no?

Sounds like you had an awesome time :)

kitkat
12-04-10, 08:28 AM
dont bother with A7, you will have so many fantastic roads on the west of scotland you wont need to venture anywhere near the east. I used to live in Balloch and all the roads around there are brilliant. Put a post in the ecosse section with your dates and you might get a few locals willing tomeet up with you and show you the good stuff or at least recommend the best roads. Im now in sunny aldershot and the roads are mince in comparison and the pot holes mentioned earlier dont add to their appeal.

yeah to be fair I've heard people rave about the west & all around fort william = prolly muuuch better than where I went.

I would recommend this though: http://www.thebestrides.co.uk/ - you can buy a small waterproof/tearproof map with all the best roads highlighted for you, only like £12 or summink :D

Hullo and welcome! The road from Ullapool over the top of Scotland is amazing, if you want to go that far. If your on the East side the Cairngorms are also good fun, although the West side is better (innit!) A lot of the roads are single track in the very North and on the wiggly bits on the Westside, leave plenty of room for you and anyone else to stop, but it really is worth the petrol.
