Sadly no. I have driven a couple on track days though. Fantastic to drive. If I had the money a 911 would be mine.

You going TWOCing again?

You going TWOCing again?

Yeah just need to find summa worth pinching.

Joking obviously, those who are aware know I'm getting hitched this summer. The weekend of the AR (Aug 8th) to be exact and the one two tasks I've been instructed to resolve were Honeymoon and Wedding Car. Honeymoons sorted, say hello to 2 weeks in the Dominican Republic :D

Leaving only the wedding car hire, I'm a porsche lover and always have been specifically the 911 every model every variation since I first saw one god knows when.
So I've been looking around all the hire companies on the interweb and I've found quite a few, all of which happy to hire it out to a 25yr old but they insist on a £2000 deposit returned to you anything from 7-28days AFTER the car is returned.
Now we've paid for a wedding and we've paid for a honeymoon so simple dont have a spare £2000 laying about so I figured for one last throw of the dice I'd ask you loverly lot.
Not expecting anyones willing to co-operate but if you dont ask and all that...

For the record if any of you are feeling generous then I'd be offering:
To pay for the insurance to cover me,
Pay and agreed amount per mile to cover running costs,
Draft up and sign any kind of contract etc you desired to ensure any damage would be repaired to show room condition (Im that confident I'll look after it lol).
And cover the cost of an executive valet on its return.

Wedding cars are the least value adding part of the wedding. Years after the event you'll be remembering the fun you had with your bride, family and friends, not how great the car was. Save your money IMO!

Owenski

A normal wedding car will cost £300-£400 thats just for the standard Beauford type wedding motor.
If it were a MASSIVE price difference then I wouldnt even be considering it.

EDIT: Got cut off mid reply;

considering it... > and if it werent for the £2000 deposit then the hire of a porsche for the day/weekend is suprisingly cheap. The same cant be said for a Ferarri or an Aston lol JEEEZZZZ they cost a few quid.

Au contraire!
I still remember the cars - 7 series to, and a limo from. She obviously got the limo both ways .

A 911 is also the car I have loved ever since, and vowed as a boy to own one, one day after just hearing it.

Good luck, hope you get it sorted

I have been saying the same thing since i was 10 and the nice link is when my best mate got married, his mrs hired him one for the weekend and i had my first drive in one.
We had 4 up in as well, wives in the back parcel thingy they call a seat, i gave it loads coming off an island and got the back end to step out a bit (on purpose) they all shat themselves, loads of fun.
Higher road tax, mother in law, poor mpg has stopped me getting one for the time being, but 1 day i will.

Actually in connection to above thread, my mate has this year split up from his mrs after 10 years, so he wont be remembering all that much i'd imagine.

Mate you're on the wrong forum... find a Porsche owners forum and sweet talk 'em. You're bound to get a bite...

Mrs B is selling her Merc, its only an A Class, and is after a 911.

I keep telling her its expensive rubbish at which point she reminds me of how practical the bike is. I have suggested the Punto, especially as she does about 15 miles per week - the reply isn't for young sensitive ears.

I honestly can't understand how a four-wheeled carrying device is an important part of the wedding day, but each to their own! :)

They always remind me of Back to the future, well the delorian aspect of the film at least.

Oddly carty, I kinda agree with you. Its ten min from the ceremony venue to the reception so it will only serve 10mins as a wedding car. She insists on something other than our golf, as its all part of the wedding day experiance. Which is why I thought well if we're paying £300 for a car for 10minutes use why not hire a nice car for the whole weekend. which lead to: If its a nice car why not a REALLY nice car and drive the dream of a 911. Looks like a none starter to be honest so I'm thinking its going to have to be £300 down the toilet and we get a Beauford.

That's my point exactly mate, £300 for 10 minutes - that's madness. I assume you're getting married at a church and being taken to the reception venue. When you get in that car, people will be looking at you, not the car. And when you're in it you'll be giddy and excited and chatting to each other, not exclaiming about how wonderful the motor vehicle is.

She insists on something other than our golf, as its all part of the wedding day experiance.
If you can get the free loan of a really nice vehicle, then great, go for it. If you have money to burn then great, go for it. But if there's any area of the day that you need to cut back on (for financial purposes) then this should be it IMO.

I was lent a Range Rover sport for the bridesmaids at my wedding...

I like my director hes generous. :-)

A Car isnt the most Important thing on the day, but it is nice to turn up to the church in a lovely car... it does feel a little more special :-)

A 911 would be a great going away car for the both of you, but would you still need another *car* for the Bride to arrive at the wedding in? You not being able to see her beforehand.
Or just get someone else to drive her to the wedding in it?

14-04-10, 01:16 PM
is it really a good idea to hire a porsche for driving to the wedding, i mean your prob gonna get in it and want to drive around all day in it and turn up late for the wedding! failing that stack it into a tree in the morning of the ceremony! either way your missus is gonna be mighty pee'd off with you! haha

Owenski
14-04-10, 01:27 PM
lol, yeah it seems to be the general view of people. Friends are taking 2 tickets at the minute; 1 for them to have a go in the car, and the 2nd is for a sweepstake of how late I'll be arriving. (I have a habbit of been late at the best of times).

On the day Abi will be at the venue first, the bridal party are getting ready in one of the guest bedrooms so she wont need the 2nd car. Im hoping if I can hire it for the weekend then the initial novelty will have worn off by the sunday, that said I may be offering to do all the last minute shopping/collecting of things on the Saturday. If it had more seats I'd offer to collect my granparants from Taunton lol.

l (I have a habbit of been late at the best of times). Best get a fast car to make up time then 8)

I'd offer to collect my granparants from Taunton lol.
With the mileage limits I think a Taxi would be cheaper

very true, what do you rate my chances of keeping it below 4000rpm all the time will be. Hire a porsche and take it on a weekend of eco driving. lol
