Only a week after buying his XJR Stu got knocked off today at the notorious Army and Navy roundabout. A van driver entered in the right hand lane then promptly took the next exit to the left. He cut across 2 lanes taking Stu out on the way. Stu's head smashed his passenger window, which shows he didn't check his mirror. He told the police Stu had hit gravel and slid into him, which was complete rubbish. Fair bit of damage to the bike, luckily Stu had all the gear on so a cut knee, sore shoulder and a broken heart.

Glad Stu is mostly OK and you won't be getting his-n-hers titanium elbow sliders.
I hope there were plenty of witnesses and some of them bothered to stop.

There was a witness. A policeman. He said it was 50 50 but then he didn't see the van driver enter the roundabout already in the wrong lane.

ouch, not good. hope Stu's ok, sending warm vibes.
I remember my first driving lesson (in September 1985!) - I asked my instructor not to make me go round the A&N. And on my second lesson, it wasn't until he directed me off the slip road at Sandon that I realised where I was heading... Those were the days before the stupid 'timeshare' flyover and the A12 bypass.

Sorry to hear this Clare.. such a lovely bike ;) Seriously though, please pass my best wishes to your other half. Hope he is not achy..
And don't worry to much about what the plod said - they said the same after they attended my accident though the guilt was 100% with the other person.. It's easier to say 50/50 than to have to go through all the paperwork...

The bike went off to the assessors today. I reckon it's twisted bars, grazed bar end, possiby twisted forks, bent front wheel, scrape to front light, busted clocks, bent brake and foot hangar, totally cracked tail piece where bike hit the ground then the van driver drove into the back of the bike, dented scraped exhaust, but most worrying is the top part of the engine where some of the fins have been broken right off and others are chipped.
He paid £4500 for it last week as it's a 2009 model. What's the betting that if the insurance company write it off they'll suddenly say it's depreciated by 50% in a week?
it's a 2009 model.
Oh! :smt104
I, erm 8-[ thought they stopped making those in 1970 8-[

No, it was me they stopped making in 1970.
Oh no! He seemed like he had fallen in love with that bike.
Least he is okay.
Let us know what the insurance company come back with.

Here are some images of the damage. Waiting for the insurance company to give us their verdict.

Looks a perfect candidate for Write off & buy back and sell on or use as is with all that cosmetic damage.
Hope it works out how you want.

What a bummer. Hope he gets well soon, and that copper gets an eye test! Shame, that was a nice looking bike as well. Best of luck!
