Hi Guys

Had my curvey for a month now and have put almost 1k miles on her (yay!)

Having a little spot of bother now though.. For some reason when stationary its almost impossible to find neutral from first - its only just started happening and ive not a clue why. 2nd to neutral when stationary is possible but a bit fiddly but heres the kicker - if you try and put it into neutral whilst your going along it seems to go in alright...

Anyone had the same problem / have any suggestions?

Check chain tension and oil level first off. They are fairly common causes and easy to check before you look to clutch adjustement.

Probably something basic.Check your engine oil level and chain adjustment/lube.Check your clutch adjustment(properly not just the cable at the lever)and also look at the gear lever where it pivots on the footrest. This needs lubing from time to time as any sticking here causes lots of shifting issues.

As above, but take the plastic sprocket cover off. Usually there is a whole load of road crap mixed with chain oil wrapped around everything. Had the problem myself, and after clearing all that **** out, the problem went away.

Thanks for the quick replies! I have checked the oil level and that seems to be fine, I tightened and lubed the chain at the weekend, I left about an inch of travel in the chain - is this right? Or do I need to re-tighten and go tighter? Will clean out all the crud around the front sprocket and check clutch adjustment tomorrow

an inch of play is about rightish IIRC. Make sure its all through the chain, and its not too tight in places. As that could give you issues too.

Adjust the clutch. Clutch drag makes getting neutral difficult.

I did it all myself, new oil and correct level sorted it, 700 miles later and mines back again, its fine once warmed up after a ride. Its a pain in the ****, i think mines maybe my basket.

Are you sure it is the basket? Is it rattling? Cables do stretch, and if it was on the way who is not to say that it hasn't stretched again? Check the cable, make sure you can adjust it. And hope it is the cable, a new cable is £13, you don't want to know how much a new basket is, never mind how much it is going to cost to fit it.

Unless you know the bike has been serviced recently I would change the oil and filter.

No not the cable, tested it.

There is rattley sound, checked everything else and the basket it faired pitted, id be fitting itmyself. Id find one off ebay from a low milage bike, in no rush for it, one will turn up. It might even be a selector as to me changing to gear 2 feels odd.

Anyone else want to left me ride theres from gear 1 to 2 to check if mines normal lol? Im insured.

My clutch cable needs adjusting every 500-1000 miles at the lever, then when I run out of lever adjustment every 7500 miles or so, I reset the lever adjustment and do it using the adjuster under the sprocket cover. Difficult neutral is the symptom.

Agree with the adjuster under the cover, once I done that and cleaned the crude out all was fine. I just kepted my eye on it there after and wasn't a problem again.
