Spent a couple of hours on the bike this afternoon... (beeyuddaful weather for riding) and passed 3 numpty's at various locations wearing t-shirts, trainers.. and no gloves. One bloke was even wearing some lame canvas shoes and a track suit!!
Now I'd expect this of scooter kids... but one was riding a Zed, and another an FZ6... nice bikes.
Put some gear on guys!!

Yep, the sun seems to have melted everyones brains!!
Today i've seen riders with no gloves, shorts, t shirts, trainers and yes, all on big bikes.
I agree with all the gear all the time but we will go round in circles cos you must respect that everyone has freedom of choice.

Yeah I seen a guy today on a pan, completely kitted up, but with no gloves?
Bizarre, why no gloves? :S

who cares, it is their choice.
I know pain hurts. just may be they have higher than normal pain thresholds
Seen one out in shorts today on a ped and a couple on a ZX or something wearing the manc trackys and no gloves!
I rode to the petrol station today 0.4 km down the road in jeans and a hoodie, I didnt go over 30mph and I sure as hell not fully kitting up for that short trip. Gloves helmet and boot for me.
Each to their own, If I'm going for a long hoon then its leathers.

or lower than usual IQ.

It's their skin, sod them if they want to blend it with tarmac.
I was out today in a Held textile jacket and a pair of normal jeans with Daytona bike boots - it was a nice bright day and I wanted to ride slow and just take in the atmosphere. wearing slightly inappropriate kit slows me down.

I saw a girl on a ped texting yesterday ^.^ i was a mixture of :o and :D
It was like something you'd see in France.
I was out today, full leathers, gloves, boots was fine till stopped and sat in the sun for an hour lol
Really should put something on under the leather trousers cos it was like boil in a bag.

Hahaha, no I had undies but I meant like something so I could take the trousers off when I stop.

Don't know about you Lozzo but back in the 70's/80's & early 90's I wore leather jacket, gloves, helmet, jeans and trainers all the time unless it was a long run out. Jeans and trainers today but tomorrow will be different coz its a long run out.
Times have changed I guess, and for the better but if based on probabilities is it a version of 'elf and saafty the we are all subscribing to?
I'm not suggesting anyone does any different than what they've been taught, or what they're comfortable with. As someone has already said, each to their own.
P.S. You'd never catch me without gloves. That's the hardest skin graft to take, or jacket for similar reasons.

Bri, I was exactly the same. My first trip abroad was a long weekend to the south of France in 1986, and it was done 2-up on a VF400F with camping kit, both of us dressed in leather jackets, jeans, hi-top trainers and Simpson Bandit lids with very basic leather gloves. We didn't take waterproofs and the jackets didn't have armour, back protectors or any of that pansy nonsense. I owned a full set of leathers from the age of 22 (1984), but hardly ever wore them because it felt weird riding in anything but jeans. Nowadays it feels really weird not to be wearing leathers or textile waterproof kit.
In the early 80s me and my hooligan RD and LC riding mates would regularly scream down from Bedford to Chelsea Bridge on a Friday night, then on to Heston Services, and ride home at about 2am in nylon Yamaha paddock jackets, jeans and Frank Thomas paddock boots etc - if it was cold a few of us would wear the paddock jacket over a leather one. We all used to wear football scarves - none of us was actually into football, but when tied together they made a good tow rope cos one of the RDs or LCs always seized on the way home.

I wear cycle shorts under my leathers. Was out today with all the gear on and put them under, though I didn't take my trousers off, they made them less sticky as I got so hot.
I just rode faster to cool down :D
Oh, and I couldn't find my summer gloves so my hands were boiling...

I dunno, a chick pulling up on her bike and peeling off hot leather pants to reveal just a g-string or something is pretty good.

Why bother going at all then? Just wait until you're actually going somewhere and get petrol then.

I usually always wear leathers except when I've dropped my bike off for servicing and walked the 1 mile back. There's something liberating about riding with minimal clothing although I don't condone it, but I can see why people do.
well this is what happens to denim in a 25mph slide down the road.

Luckily they have kevlar lining so my legs were untouched. So unless you're pushing the bike down the road in standard jeans, how much slower are you realistically gonna ride when you're not fully protected? I used to ride round London with just jeans on. After coming off at relatively low speed, I've realised if you wanna enjoy the ride just kit up fully. Sub 30mph spills can still leave you nice and skinless.
But each to their own I guess. I know I used to think 'Well if I wear jeans this one time, what's the chance I'll be crashing"? But then one time becomes a recurrence as you get lazier and fall into a false sense of biking security.
I'm sure the wind and freedom of flip flops and shorts must be fun, but not worth the risk IMO. But then again there are probably people having this discussion on a four wheeled forum about how you'd have to be a nutter to even consider getting a bike.

About 3 years ago, the lad across the road (Paramedic and owner of 2 blades and an R1) banged on my door demanding beer and talk.
It turns up he had been sent home after a particularly nasty one where the vest wearers chest cavity had split open as he went down the road a silly speed, most of his internal organs had spilt and my mate had to pick up and bag.
He needed reassurance that his wife and daughter would never have to think he had died in such a manner. On a bike yes, but simply because of stupidity no. His opinion a the time was that the guy in proper gear would have been badly hurt but would have survived. Over a rack of beer that night I resolved never to compromise my safety.

Being up to stand up unassisted and worry about my now-smashed bike instead of myself is a good reason to wear always wear full gear.

Yeah see I thoguht that once, I'm only going 1 mile...then a 30mph slide later I'm lucky to still be walking, the pics or on this site somewhere but my normal storage is filtered at work so I can't upload them again =p.
Even short trips can do you in :)
