since having kids my idea of simple pleasures has changed:smt045. As I write this I am just out the shower (which I did not have to share with Libby)=D>, I was not woken at 6am by the sounds of my step daughter reading to Libby coming thru the baby monitor and 110 db:eek:. I did not have to get up at 7am to take my daughter to work:cool:. Libby is still snoring in her cot:p. Life is good.

My other pleasure is having peace to drink a cup of coffee while it is still hot

What other simple pleasures do people enjoy occassionally - it cant be a regular thing.

Sitting down in the lounge reading the paper when the family are all out, so peace and quiet. Don't get much of that, so appreciated when it does happen.

You know those times when one is alone in the house, everybody is away for several hours and it is just yourself, in peace and quiet. At those times for me it is time for some self love, a hot bath and a nice cup of hot chocolate and I then just sink into the water and enjoy a really good book. You can't get a better bit of self love than that.

It rejuvenates the spirit and when the family get home, Carol's friends come over or the neighbors get noisy, I know that I had that brief moment of gentle solitude with my book.

Currently reading "Matter" by Iain M Banks. :D

sitting in the sun listening to nothing except birds or making shapes out of the clouds against a blue sky.
I also love listening to the summer rain at night.

I think you're just luring everybody into a false sense of security with talk of summer rain and cloud shapes...not worked out your evil motive yet...

I don't get to see my little boy nearly as much as I want to, so having him curl up for a story and fall sleep on me is right up there. Then putting him to bed and popping down the road for a pint!!

Cheers

PS yes I leave him with someone responsible!

Just having a lay in and able to go back to sleep when I have woken up. If I wake in the morning that's it, game over. Time to get up. Very seldomly sleep in. I get up at 5.50 each morning for my 1hr 45minute commute to work. Get home at 6pm. Back to bed by 11pm. Body clock is always waking me up at the same time each morning. Once I am awake, that's it. I can't go back to sleep. But once in a blue moon, I have a morning where I have woken up and everything is still quiet, I roll over and go back to sleep.

Every time I hit 5000rpm on my Nelli and the induction roar comes through. Makes me giggle like a little schoolgirl. Every time!

When I don't have to go to work.

Going for a walk along the beach or in the woods with Mrs B and the dog. Even after too many years of marriage we can still talk for hours - neither of us listens to the other.

Only kidding with the last bit.

+1. I wasn't sure about going to Zakynthos until I was lying on an inflatable bed, drifting around the pool with a can of Mythos.

Waking up after a lie in and realising that I don't have to do anything or be anywhere by any time that day. Then walking downstairs and having a nice bacon butty whilst watching a day of motorsport. All whilst still just wearing boxers of course! :)

Doesn't happen often.

Secret kisses from Mrs BP when the kids aren't watching and going "Ewwwwww Dad!"

BBQ's in the garden, looking at the food growing in the plot, seeing the garlic plants poking out of the snow on the allotment in February.

My new Tiger 1050. THE bike I always wanted. It's even better than I imagined it, every time I start it, I get a real shiver down my spine. Riding it is a rush of noise and acceleration. Biss.

Many, many others,, then again, I'm a simple bloke.

Pete ;)

Picking up a new magazine and sitting in the lounge in my trackie bottoms with a cup of rosie lee, telly off and nice and quiet.

Having a ride on my bike with no silly mistakes etc or not feeling like that was a close one.

Going to bed knowing i aint gotta get up and do anything next day, which doesnt happen often.

Pint of strongbow in the summer, standing outside the pub in the sunshine.

When i have done a job for a customer and i am as pleased with it as they are.

Running the eczema on my hands under hot water! The masochistic pleasure is sublime.

But I try not to do it often because it's really bad for me.

Another one.

Standing in front of my half finished wood fired pizza oven which is drying out with a charcoal fire inside, hot, raw heat pouring out warming me up and a pint of good home brew in hand cooling me down.

Sunset glowing, kids asleep and happy to be going to school tomorrow.

A spontaneous kiss from either of the kids whilst cuddling on the couch...

Hitting a sweet golf shot - somtimes you hit one that would make a pro clap. Thing is I they can do it all the time and I can't!

Waking up in the night and feeling like you've had loads of sleep already, then looking at the clock and finding it's only 1am and you've still got another 6 hours sleep to go :)

Oh you're lucky. I'm very familiar with 2 - 5am. I usually wake up around 2ish, and then synapses start firing and that's it for 3 hours, no sleep.

My simple pleasure - washing my bike. Sounds lame but I rarely get time to do it.

Driving home from work on Friday eve knowing Phil will be home.

Spending time in our new garden when the sun is out, feeding the fish and listening to the birds, so peaceful.

And finally a warm bath with a nice glass of wine!

Spending time with my sister (just me and her without husbands or children) happened once in the past year!

Sitting in a beer garden with my feet in the river at a pub by our old house

Any time where I haven't got something else on my mind, be that work, money, stuff happening in the family etc.
