First off, I'm not hurt - at all. Perfectly OK in fact. My bike is not so fortunate.
Happened on the way home from Liverpool this evening on the A41 at Milton Green - about 6 miles east of Chester. It's a single carriageway, relatively poorly surfaced 40 limit.
Was following a foreign registered artic (turned out it was a British driver) through the 40 when suddenly he braked damn hard. The car in front of him had done an emergency stop and then turned right. Anyways the back of the wagon was getting closer and I squeezed a bit harder - by no means an emergency stop as I always leave plenty of room. I had new tyres fitted yesterday - and I braked a bit too hard on new rubber, the front washed out and over I went on the right side, hit the road at oh about 30 I suppose, had put out my hand and landed on my right hand, right elbow and right knee.
The Range Rover behind me stopped. The trucker and the lady driver helped me pick up the bike. Anyway while all this was going on, the traffic going the other way had slowed down to rubberneck and a Land Rover Defender hit the kerb as the driver didbn't see the car in front slow down. All spectacular stuff!!!!
Damage to bike - offside fairing scraped, brake lever end scraped (I need those Pazzos now, Si), bar end scraped, T3 crash bung bent and scraped beyond recognition, stator cover scraped, rear seat unit scraped (badly), paddock stand bobbin scraped, rear brake lever snapped off, front right indie shot, mirror housing a bit mashed.
Damage to kit - hole in right glove, elbow through leathers, right knee of pants a bit mashed. I'm not sure if my lid hit the deck.
Damage to knee - nothing.

Oh dear oh dear Ed:thumbdown:
You are unscathed and not under said truck so hats off to you for that.
Leathers didn't hold up for much though, I'd be really disappointed in them TBH,
Glad you are very very ok in honesty.
Oh gutted for you mate. Quite a bit of damage there to sort out. Leathers look like they did there job pretty well.

Silly thing... least you're alright, as much of an annoyance it is about the bike though!
Are they holes in the leather jacket? At 30mph? Don't look too good from the pictures.
you **** .. look what you done to that poor bike.
only kidding, fek the bike as long as your ok.

Bummer Ed, was a nice bike as well.
Did it wash out on you in a straight line?, must have been some crap on the road as well surely, i would have thought your bike could tolerate you hammering the brakes before giving way, your new rubber must have been well slippy.
At least your ok.

Trumpet down the road, not good.
You OK, all good!
That sounds exactly like my first off, down to the lorry and car scene.
Glad you're ok,
Pete ;)
Bad luck Ed - important thing is you're ok. The kit seems to have done its job - reckon that crash bung did a great job, no doubt there would have been more damage without it. Off to ebay you must go...:D
ah bugger, may as well race it now ;-)

Bugger :(
Glad you're OK though.
Thank you everyone!!
I've got some spare indies courtesy of kingfixer over on 675.cc, I found a graphite tail unit on ebay, auction has 3 days to go yet so I'm watching it. If anyone else dares bid on it, you're toast!! I wanted new levers anyway so I's getting some nice Pazzo shorties. Think it's time to get some anodised bar ends, I can get a rear brake lever from Wylies, the crash bung from T3, and the mirror housing, the stator cover and the panel will have to wait.
My leathers - well they're a bit of a mess, they'll have to do till I can afford some new ones. But they did their job, yes I'm annoyed about the holes, but I'd be a darn sight more annoyed if I had holes in my arms.
I like my new tyres, they are really good, but I didn't like them when I came off. I really didn't brake THAT hard, just a bot more firmly than usual, and over I went. I didn't lock up the front (got that T shirt, learned the lesson), it simply slipped away cos the tyre didn't grip.
Damn.
Oh well, not the first time, sure as hell won't be the last. Onwards and upwards:D

Wow only just seen this Ed... so glad you`re not badly hurt. The bike is replaceable but there`s only one Ed x
Bugger, glad you came out of it relatively unscathed.
FWIW I think the bungs did a decent enough job considering the speed it went down at - the fairing only got scrapes and not breaks - and the leathers saved you from serious damage. I treat stuff like that as semi-disposable, but obviously it'd be nice if they lasted longer. You can always have them repaired by a specialist.

Absolutely gutted Ed!
And we were just chating a few hours earlier.
Come home and
Only cosmetics on the bike so's good there.
By the looks of them leathers could have been much worse for the rider.
Really glad to hear you are OK!
Everyone has said everything that I was going to say.
Now you've learnt an important lesson, Stop slipstream trucks to go faster, get a proper bike.
:0) only joking Ed.

Always the most important thing Ed. Glad to hear it. Hope you're not too sore and achey today.
I had new tyres fitted yesterday - and I braked a bit too hard on new rubber, the front washed out and over I went on the right side
Bit ironic after all those miles on the dreaded Supercorsas that your new rubber should dump you in the do-do. I'm surprised they weren't scrubbed in though given you'd ridden up to Liverpool on them, especially as you were upright at the time.
What are you going to do about the fairing? Unlikely to find a panel on Ebay, I'd have thought.

Oh no, glad you're ok dude
Ouch! Glad you bounced ok.
Need to sort the bike for the summer.
Blimey, so many posts!!!! Thank you everyone - really appreciate it:D
Had a quick look at the bike this morning, it looks a mess but it's not too bad really. I need a rear brake pedal asap, but I rode it home using the front brake only. I keep going over what happened, the back of the truck was coming up real quick as he did an emergency stop, I'm certain I didn't lock up the front though. Pete, the tyres are still shiny.
My right hand is a bit sore where a bit of roadstone went through my glove, but not even a cut.
I can't find a matching panel on ebay - there are some, yellow, black and red, but not graphite. I have a protected NCB so I don't mind making a claim. When I've come off before, I've fixed it up and then ended up chopping in the bike. Can't afford to this time:rolleyes:
Blimey, so many posts!!!! Thank you everyone - really appreciate it:D
you did it to check your popularity didnt you? well i hope you are happy now, you've scuffed your bike up just to find out we all love you. you might next time just ask.....

Ed--I had a couple of offs with the ST,niether my fault, like yourself protected NCB so I claimed on my insurance and let the insurance companies fight it out. The Triumph OE parts are not cheap but the plastics were a perfect match.
Its what we pay insurance for------------

oh, Ed. sorry to hear about your pride & joy, but so glad you're OK. Them motorcycle things ain't half dangerous! xx
I have a protected NCB so I don't mind making a claim.
sorry to see you have come off, with the amount of damage to your gear as well would this not all covered as well on the insurance claim,
might be worth getting it sorted by the insurance if you plan to keep it, if you cant find replacment parts in the same colour, (and if you do will they be mint like the bike was/is)
A4se.
Keep the scuffed stuff for trackdays & Ferry Crossings. You won't be worrying about scratching it?
Edit: Not too impressed with that jacket. Number of times I watched little brother ditching his race bike without putting holes in anything - still did it's job I suppose.

+1. Shame about the bike, but glad you're OK. On protected NCB I would stick it all through insurance and get it back good as new with some new leathers if it were me, it was a lovely bike. When I binned my SV the girl at the insurance company was really good. I got her to give me a quote for a new bike whilst chatting her up a bit, and then said in a playful manner "OK, before we go any further with this conversation you've to promise me that you won't touch my customer record!" she says "OK", so I asked her to re-quote for the new bike, just assuming hypothetically that I had binned my SV and made a claim. ;) She did it and from that I was able to make a financial judgement based on fix myself, or go through insurance. Even with protected NCB your premium would go up, because you'll have an accident registered against you, but would it go up by more over say the next three years, than buying all the bits for your bike and buying new leathers? If it was only 100 quid a year, it may be well worth it.
I like my new tyres, they are really good, but I didn't like them when I came off. I really didn't brake THAT hard, just a bot more firmly than usual, and over I went. I didn't lock up the front (got that T shirt, learned the lesson), it simply slipped away cos the tyre didn't grip.
There was probably a contributing factor on the road surface Ed, you were probably just unlucky that new tyres, poor surface, and hard braking all happened to end up in the same place at the same time.

Hard luck - a couple of days earlier it would been fine! At least you're fine and it's only cosmetic damage to the bike.
Gutted, could have been worse at 30mph with busy traffic. I hear 4x4 are quite heavy you see and go over people quite well lol.
Hope it gets fixed ok.
If it was me I would be tempted just to fix it myself over time and just rise it around a bit scuffed but I know you like it clean and shiny so insurance may be the way forwards.
Unlucky Ed , hope you get everything sorted & glad ur ok
Cheers Steveg

Had another look today, it's not that bad. Plus the insurance seems to be a no go cos of the XS. Panel isn't split, just scuffed, so I'm investigating a repair. Tail piece needs replacing though, hoping the ebay one comes good:D

I bet if you went through insurance to get it done perfect then I bet once you add it up it would be touch and go at triumph price whether they wrote it off or not.
When you start adding up tailpiece, side fairing, engine casing, rear set and all the other bit I bet the price sky rockets. I would just sort it yourself.

Oh Ed just seen this...... you will do anything for a Woozle hug won't you xxxxxxx ;)
Ed, you muppet, just heard the news. Glad to hear you're in one piece. I guess the driver who did the emergency stop in front of the truck was blissfully unaware of the commotion behind him.
I think there might have been some sinister star alignment last week, my bike fell the side stand and landed on me. Broken gear lever and a broken foot, not to mention lots of bad words being expelled.
I think the patch idea on the jackets sound good. Done well, no one would ever know.
Keep smiling
John
