big style, well for a start we (mum dad me and gf) are 200 miles away from home in devon, we were going down a long not that steep hill then it sudernly narrows so my dad who was in front in the car was comming towards this bit that narows then sudernly thers a camper that came round the corner so my dad slamed his brakes on from about 45mph, i slam mine on the back slides then the front then the front grips flinging me over the roof of my dads car and then i fell down the side pined buy car and concreat block, bike smashes into back of dads car and the rear lands on an imbankment to the side and leaks oil all through the air box, im ok badly bruised ribs, lots of pulled muscles dads car has a bike shaped dent and needs the boot lights and bumper replacing, bike has bent forks, smashed clocks, front lights, carbon front fender, mirrors, seat cowl, both yokes are bent so the bikes fukd ..... And i cant get it home till next weekend because a recovery company want £500 to get it home so geting van to bring it back, police were called and all that

Not sure you'll have the option to do that unless you're willing to lie about the circumstances of the collision.

Barwel, Police can't really make sure you are ok as we are not medically trained. You should get yourself to an A+E to get a proper check, incase you have any cracked ribs etc.

thulfi
17-04-10, 10:04 PM
yeh what MBK said. Mate get someone to take you down to A&E, tell 'em what happened so they can check you out properly. Always better to catch any damage earlier rather than later.

Sorry to hear.

A hard lesson learned hopefully Dan?

This.

Its good that you had all your kit on. And that you walked away, I know a few folk who've had similar accidents and havent been so lucky.

Now get to A&E and make sure there's nowt broken.

17-04-10, 10:23 PM
Hey there Barwel, sorry to hear of your accident. I am sure that your parents were horrified and relieved to see you were OK and I am sure that once the shock clears, you will feel a little lost for a while. Take care of yourself though and don't get too down hearted.

Both Carol and I send you our best wishes and wish you and your bike back to full health very soon.

Also, as other here have said, any pains or strange feelings, get yourself down to A+E. If you end up in Derriford, look out for some super fit Navy Doctors and Nurses!

Even fully trained Ambulance crew can miss things, as Kwak found when they gave him the all clear at the scene and he later found he'd broken his collar bone:smt009 After a, dunno, 80 mile ride home. :pale:

So if you're feeling tender today Barwell, you might want to consider A & E

Glad you OK, post up in Madlanders if you need help with the bike, I'm sure at any point in time one of us will have a free pair of hands.

My Dad would have killed me for not leaving enough stopping distance and damaging his car!

If it's a company car and you don't want them to claim off your insurance, you had better say that your Dad reversed into your bike.

what my dad thinks hapend is because he was dragging his brakes from the top of the hill so when he slamed his brakes on i dident react like i would if the brake lights sudernly came on because they were already on by then, obviousy i then slamed my brakes on bike cut out, rear locked up then front then it griped and threw me over the bars over the roof and down the side of the car and bike fliped into boot of car and to the side on to the enbankment going to have a look in a bit will get some pics of bike

kinda know what that feels like man. Had something a bit similar where someones brake lights just didn't even come on and I went piling into their boot. I made so much air I didn't even hit the car. Not a nice feeling going over the handlebars, especially at speed! You're just praying you don't land on your neck.

Been checked out yet mate?

18-04-10, 11:23 PM
Hi all back home (well gf's house) now

also got new exhaust to day .... to say the least im gutted i now dont have a bike to fit it to :\

Can go in to detail a bit more now im on a computer and not a phone

so the damage to the bike is, the front forks are bent, the internals have also broken not sure what but they have gone verry soft (have hard springs in them), the yokes and handel bars are bent/twisted, carbonfibre mud guard is shaterd and has also forced up in to the fork guards, head lights are bent distorted and smashed, head light brackets are twisted and bent, braket holder things that go around the forks are also bent and have done unknow damage to the forks, clocks are compleatly shot smashed and dont work, the clock brachet is very bent, rear seat cowl has smashed, tank stay's might be bent enguine fluded with oil poored out of air box and left about half a litre of oil/petrol on the floor, front tire is shreaded on the one side and back has bald pach on the rear

damage to dads car is boot, light, roof, door , rear quarter pannel is scuffed and i head butted the mirror so not sure what thats done

the worce bit about it all is that my dad blames himself for what must have been fate, even though we have told him it wasent any thing that he could have done (brake hard or hit concreat block and caravan thing) he still thinks it's his fault, GF is prety shuk up about it and is finding it hard to sleep, mum is upset about was a mess at the time

we are off to pic bike up next weekend borrowing the GF's dad's company van (thanks for the offer of the trailer :) )

pics dont realy show the extent of the damage but you get the idea

http://i357.photobucket.com/albums/oo16/barwell1992/18042010403.jpg

do you like the carbon shard forced in to the forks on the bottom stantion ? :|

http://i357.photobucket.com/albums/oo16/barwell1992/18042010407.jpg

and cheers dave(numbers) but most likley will be the gixer front or sell the bike as it is and get somthing else

**** me. Sounds bad. I think you beat El Saxo for most spectacular crash. ;)

Two car lengths sounds sod all gap for 45mph aswell. :o

Good that you're not to broken though and that the bike took the hit rather than you. Get back on the road soon mate. :)

barwel1992
18-04-10, 11:44 PM
lol not a trophy i wanted

may have been slower than 45mph no idea because i cant remeber and may have been longer than 2 cars once again i have no idea because i cant rember

thinking about it 2 car lenghts sounds to close, if we were going 45mph and i was only 2 cars back i think there would be more damage

dad and gf thourght it was the camper van that hit the car from the noise, and i dident hit it fast enough to jolt the car forward, both dident know it was me untill mum scremed as i was lying by the door ...

Only read the initial post and first page, so this might have been suggested already...

Can you not agree with your Dad that he was at fault, get his company to pay out, fix up your bike. You say your dads car is a company car, so they should fix his car for him. Job done.

Glad your alright-ish.

Glad to see your relatively okay.

Note for future riding, the rule is, it's not 2 car lengths, it's 2 seconds.
NB It is impossible to stop inside 2 seconds. That rule relies on the vehicle in front taking time to stop as well, so if that is a car trailing brakes so that you don't have the warning of brake lights coming on, and it can stop faster than you, you could still have a problem.

plowsie
19-04-10, 11:55 AM

To save you reading through, no, nobody has suggested committing insurance fraud before you.
Although how you can blame the car in front for causing your bike to exceed the power limit of it's rider's licence just by stopping, is a bit of a stretch :???:

Just as a matter of interest, if the occupants in the car do decide to claim for whiplash injuries, a major insurer is trialling new software for rear end shunts at the moment to give likely percentages of injury caused to vehicle occupants. This is largely as a result of personal injury claims going through the roof in this present recession. Indeed, on my desk, I have a claim open on my desk at the moment going off to our fraud department where the third party suffered, literally scratches to his rear bumper, dealt with by a mobile paint repairer, and his medical report, (a known pro claimant GP, instructed by a firm who always issue court proceedings in Birkenhead, a very "favourable court") suggests he will take 10m to recover.

The software says "no way hose", and is probably going to go to trial. A bump to the rear by a light weight bike and unseated rider might not be expected to inject sufficient velocity to cause injury. However, I myself have grave doubts that courts will give any software any creedance in court.

Hope you recover soon - it's only bent metal at the end of the day, and if your engine was fine, someone was selling a sv with an engine fault (was it ebay?) only last week for a few hundred pounds.
