new shape? or last shape?

i only have a little 316 compact, but its quite heavy of petrol if your heavy with your right foot! oh and driving in snow and ice with it is rubbish! thanfully that all seems to be gone till next winter, but every journey in the snow was an adventure.

but i've had no problems with mine, seems to have a fairly good build quality, no stupid rattles or squeeks or anything like that. really enjoy having it. plus the rear wheel drive is fun at times! as long as its been looked after and well maitained you should be fine.

i'd say 30mpg is achievable, but drive it a little bit 'briskly' and that will be down to 25 or lower i reckon. now i love my bmw as its just given me some good hassle free motoring.

the fuel consumption is starting to annoy me though, but thats really just due to the cost of petrol going up all the time. instead of being £50 to fill up like when i bought it a year ago, its now £60! now if you do a lot of miles a year it very quickly adds up. great cars, great fun to drive, but just make sure you can absorb the running costs. you going to take it to a BMW main dealer for servicing or do you know a decent specialist? what sort of tyres is it running, i wont be putting cheap budget tyres on mine unless i want to be in a hedge come winter!

Its just had to front Tyres and two rear replaced back in Sept, Bridgstone. The problem is the car is miles away (up in NewCastle) i dont know if its worth the travel.

It's a lovely car by the looks of it, full leather cream interior with the 18" low millage and cheaper than anything down herewith more miles! (prolly cus its so far up north)

iirc the main thing to check on any 3 series (i loved mine but it was blow up literally anyway in diversing) is head gasket they are known to go, also arch lips are prone to rusting, finally make sure the gearbox is sound cos there a git to change and fecking expencive
pure rwd fun id have another tomorrow if i could afford to run it

i'm getting about 50-60 miles to a tenna, usually £20 a week but i have put £60 in if i do the miles, my trip computer will read 37 on a motorway at a steady 60 - 70 but round town its as low as 21 :smt022

The M sport model is a really nice car but id say a tad on the hard side if you like a comfortable ride, i also find altho its M sport its rather sparce in the extra equipment department where as the merc c class and the passat before that were fully loaded for less money.

Thanks guys im torn at the momment between the bmw and a Celica GT

Celica is a little more expensive but slightly better on fuel and tax, the BMW is worse on fuel and tax but has that extra comfort and class.

i have the 330cd M Sport and i love it but the running costs are pretty insane and the ride can be pretty hard compared to other cars in the league, but i cant fault the engine it will hold its own on the road. diesel so it aint too bad on mpg 35-45 depending on driving but Insurance (for me), tyres (almost 200 each), servicing and replacement parts are expensive. i have learnt thats just the way it is with cars though, you gotta be prepared for the bills unless you can do it yourself.

looks nice though, a kid i know has the 323 and he loves it.

petrols are thirsty buggers so i hear, i would prob trade mine in for an M3 though if i wouldnt get rap*d on insurance.

I've got a long weekend driving this (GF parents lending it to me) .... this weekend. London to Cornwall and around and back .... I'll let you know my thoughts when I get back :p

I've always been an Audi man ..... (years ago I had a 225bhp TT, and last year I sold mt A3 3.2 V6) ...... now I use the bike so much, we're down to one car, and it'd made sense for it to be our Yaris

I can see Celica and Beemer have appeal ...... but I've driven the 325, and don't overly rate it ..... as thirsty as the 330, not much quicker than the 320 (older 6 cylinders) ..... what BMW really need is the Mini 1.6T in one ... just as much power (when you want it) .... more economy ..
