View Full Version : Gilles Rear sets or Standard?

I can't decide if to part with £300 for a set of Gilles or if the standards are more than adequate.

I want to maximise the comfort factor more than anything else, so anyone else that is 5ft 11" please help me decide!

Gilles seem overpriced. I would go for GBmoto or something like that for half the price.

I wouldn't change aftermarket rearsets I have back to stock ones that's for sure.

TechG ones meant for SRAD. Look exactly the same as GBmoto, I suspect they are in fact same part.

i think you can spend the £300 in better ways than on rearsets

well that all depends on several things really, if for example it was just for a bit of "bling" then yes I'd agree, however if it was to make the bike more usable for comfort reasons (leg position, although I have adaptor plates on the S4 for this reason), or as in my case the extra feedback they provide, then I wouldn't, once again personal choice, it's your money spend it where you want :smt102

Oh and a basic run down, Gilles are good, a bit blocky and expensive, Metisse are very nice looking and beautifully made but not very strong in a spill, Rizoma ones are very well engineered but even more expensive than Gillies, Promachs are good and the ones used by Cresent Suzuki and from experience they are very strong, not tried the GBmoto ones so have no opinion on those.

Cheers Mark.

Can I just ask but do these rear sets do anything for the bike or is it just for looks...?

^ leg position, more feel, smoother leaver action, adjust ability, harder to brake/bend

and you get the GB ones from ebay or there site

Just found them on ebay, am i right in thinking if i put them on i would need something else to get them brake light working...?

you would need a banjo switch i think you need a 1.25 pitch single switch goodridge one is what i have and its quite good for what it is

i needed a longer brake line but i think that might have been because mines a naked and has a shorter line in the first place (s have longer)

I want the adjustable riding position, but they are stonger, and people say you get more fedback from them because they are more ridgid.

barwel1992

they are stronger also parts are replaceable so so if they do get damaged you dont have to get whole new rear sets.

and the pegs dont fold up like stock ones so yes they are more ridged and give more feed back

I've got some Gilles on my curvy.

Bought them second hand off ebay. They were meant for a k4/5 GSXR...

Feel lovely, adjustable and as said, more feedback. Helps with ground clearance too as the standard ones are far too low.

Get some!!

If it's just comfort apparently you can fit the rearsets from the naked SV onto a sport. Lowers the pegs a bit. I'm only 5'7" and I find the SVS quite cramped on the knee, but the ground clearance is good!

^ cool, any problems with fitting give me a shout

PS i flipped and swapped the adjuster plates around so i could lower them a notch further than shown (still higher than S model sv) because i have fat legs and couldn't get my leg up :p
