Why do people not turn their lights on until its pitch black?! Coming home from a ride out with the SOC about 65% of the cars coming the other way had no lights on the weather was horrible but you could still see headlights, I pull out to overtake a lorry doing about 40mph and as i get along side it I see a old grey mondeo flying along with no lights and it got more people like that all the way back. THere not just so you can see in the dark you thick ****s.

I had a bit of an eye opening moment shortly after learning to ride a bike.
My first proper rideout started with me heading out in thick fog...really thick, 10m visibilty type of fog. And cars decided that using just their sidelights was enough!!!

+1 It is so annoying. I've had a few close shaves myself.

Mine are automatic, and probably come on a little early.

However, if its foggy I've got to remember to switch them on. Fog(v. light 'colour') doesn't seem to switch them on.

Are you sure it wasn't just that the other 35% of drivers/riders also had misted up windscreens/visors and it was in fact perfectly clear?

My (off at a tangent) gripe is people who don't wait behind parked cars on their side of the road when there's plainly not enough room to get by. Grrrr

Well after getting back to calder bridge not being able to feel my fingers or toes and taking my leathers off to reaveal trackies that made me look like I had ****ed my self aye im fair sure like. All I can say is at least the weather was decent for going over hard knott even if i was stuck behind one of the slower/older members whose first time it was on hardknott.
