Guys and Girls...

In a few weeks the whole reason for me buying my SV will be over - I will have completed my Police Bike Course, and so will be letting go of my beloved SV.

I am a Traffic Cop in London, and bought the SV from "The Motorbike Shop" in North Camp, Farnborough. It was a 1 owner from new immaculate example. During my ownership, the bike has been cherished and cleaned, serviced, meticulously looked after and treated as a god, as you would expect. Part of my job is to keep vehicles, both cars and bikes, in tip top condition, and by virtue of what I do, I can assure you the bike is faultless and pristine. Therefore viewings and questions are essential to appreciate the bike and to appreciate it's history.

At the end of the day, there are loads of SV's for sale out there, as there will always be. I think the SK5 with its black frame + wheels, pointy faring and overall ridablilty is one of the best bikes out there today. I have kept mine tip top, and I hope this will be recognised by any true buyer. I would love to hear from anyone interested in a bike of this history.

-SV650S - Blue - 2005 - 19k
-FSH - Recently Serviced - No work needed
-Run on Super Unleaded Only
-Garaged and kept dry through ownership
-Regularly checked Petrol / Oil / Water / Electrics / Rubber
-New rear tyre

Here are some pics of it taken recently. I will take some fresh ones soon.

Please PM if interested. This will go on Auto Trader at the end of May.

A price would help buddy (unless i missed it) but otherwise its a beauty, good luck with the sale

Yes, realised I had missed that bit.

TBH, I have no set price. I know what I paid for it in August 09 (£3450) and I don't expect anything like that as I am a 2nd owner and the bike is now 7 months older. That said, the bike speaks for itself - as does it's history and maintenance.

Autotrader have decent SK5's ranging between up to £3250. However, I don't need or want top dollar. All I want is an honest buyer.

A buyer who knows what they are looking for however may be prepared to pay for that extra piece of mind. Offers are welcome whatever they may be. I offer it here for a month first on purpose as a member of the org. should have first dibs...

I am confident about the bike and it will sell - so grab your chance now!

A great looking bike - good luck with the sale.

One of the rules (http://forums.sv650.org/announcement.php?f=113&a=97) of the for sale section is that " Items must be offered for sale for a specified amount" - so it might be worth sticking up a price before the mods find out;)

Thx for both replies...

I see the thread has been looked at so I presume potential buyers peruse at will.

My bike course starts 10 May and lasts 3 weeks.

What I wanted to do, but will still do, is take some pics of it at the garage. I am blessed that I work in the environment to keep it tip-top ; we have all manner of facilities and materials there which we contribute to make use of, not least of which a top of the range diesel powered Karcher Pressure wash as well as undercover storage.

In line with the policy of the forum, I will state a price, and I base it fairly on having trawled Auto Trader for identical bikes.

Narrowing down the search I find an SK5 here for £3495 - IMHO, well over priced.... http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201014356503030/sort/priceasc/usedbikes/colour/blue/maximum-age/up_to_5_years_old/engine-size-bikes/625cc_to_825cc/model/sv/make/suzuki/page/1/radius/1500/postcode/gu240qg/keywords/sk5?logcode=p

Looking at whats available, just over £3k seems the price the decent bikes are commadning.

Therefore I offer mine at a price of £2999. I think this is a fantastic offer bearing in mind the price of the others available, the quality of bike and the fact that prices of 2nd hand bikes are rising.

I will watch the thread, and at the end of May will move to Bike Trader...

Meant to add - I have an aftermarket exhaust which is around 18 months old, a Fuel exhaust. The bike sounds sublime and spits, pops and bangs beautifully. Also have mushrooms either side.

Well, I have just passed my police bike course, therefore the SV now goes live for sale.

After no bites at the cherry here I am moving to Auto Trader as planned.

Cant help feeling it a pity that such a clean bike has gone ignored...

It will be on AT this weekend, I will post the link here too (if thats ok mods)

Im utterly gobsmacked. The bike has been on Ebay and Biketrader as well as here for a week, and I have lowered the price twice.

I have not had 1 single enquiry. I also have NO watchers on Ebay.

Is it really this hard to sell an SV? Unblelievabe.

Sorry to hear that fella but look at Phils bike, his is a K8 with around 3k miles for not much more than your asking for yours, my 54 plate with 11k miles is probably only worth around 2k!

Got to agree with Ravingdavis. I bought My K5 SV which had full fairing on it in 2008 with only 1200 miles on for the same as what you are asking for.

Ask for £2200 and you may get some interest.

Not having a go, your bike is nice and should be worth what you are asking for. If you hold on you may get what you want for it but if you are after a quick sale you'll need to drop a bit lower.

Thing is I have priced it in conjunction with whats on offer... There are loads of bikes there for around £2900 to £3000 that are older and in poorer condition.

I cant drop it much more as I have finance outstanding to the tune of around £2500.

Keep it and ride it mate. They are so much better value if you hang on to them for several years.

Dizeee
06-06-10, 08:27 PM
I have dropped it again to £2350 - which is below what I owe on it! No calls, no messages, nothing!

I am utterly gobsmacked - I am desperate to sell this bike and have paid through the nose on advertising - just can't understand why such a good example of such a popular bike is attracting no interest.

Had 1 offer of £1700!!! Needless to say, didnt even bother considering it.

the problem is they are as common as muck :/ my nearly mint k3 only cost me £1600 last year

They may be advertised for that; doesn't mean they've sold though!

Well, what a ridiculous situation. I am stuck with a perfectly good bike that I can't get rid of for no apparent reason. I have just got off the phone to the finance company over surrendering the bike back to them and paying off the outstanding balance in litigation.

I am pretty annoyed to be in this situation after only 8 months of owning the bike. Having dropped the price so low, I also now have no movement in its price whatsoever as I am already hundreds of pounds below what I owe on finance.

There was me thinking bikes were great value, especially the SV and fairly straightforward to own and sell on - never again.

Mind if I asked what you paid for it, and what the miles etc were at the time. Its not of any help to you I just suspect that by buying something from a dealer you've had your pants pulled down. With the addition of finanace then your risking full on penetration invasion by said dealer.

I feel for you, I've lost £2000 in 6months on a car the shame is that its not what its worth, its what people will pay. Unfortunatly for you if I was able to pick up an 07plate with 11,000 miles on it for £2500 last september (inc over £500 of accesories/upgrades) then I recon there will be much better offers around for people at the minute than what you propose. Been brutally honest although the £1700 offer you recived was still low its closer to reality than the £2350 you've placed upon yours.

My advice if you want it is to keep the bike for another year, try to sell it again next spring and I recon you'll still get attention listing it at £1850.00 just dont neglect it in the mean time.

This is what the chap paid for it...

A lot by all accounts, I paid £2400 for my K4 in the same month and year and it only had 3k on the clock. Mine had a few extras such as hugger, fairing lowers, remus can etc.

I think your dealer shafted you a bit on the price matey :(

It was up at £3400 (I think) last August... that was from the Motorbike Shop in Farnborough. I cant remember exactly but I think I got £200 off and put down £200 deposit, so financed around £3k. That was in August 2009.

My settlement figure now is £2450. Of the dealers I have called, they don't even want any SV's a the moment let alone make an offer on mine, and if they did they were around the 1k mark.

Thats dealers for you. They make a living by buying cheap from people(like you?)who need to sell quick and then selling dear to people (like you last year?)who are willing to take out finance to get a bike on the road quick. It will always be an expensive business to buy from a dealer on finance, especially so if you only keep the bike a short time. Why not keep it and use it as transport for another year?A six year old SV still in good order will be worth only marginally less than this five year old one,and you will no longer be selling it for less than it owes you.

Thats sick £1000 for it is rediculas obviously dont accept that! Hell if thats your only option put it up on here for £1500 and I recon it'll be gone within the week.

Unfortunatly I think Dave is right, to say you bought your bike a month before I bought mine and paid £1000 more than I did is astonishing this 07 plate is mine;
http://forums.sv650.org/picture.php?albumid=271&pictureid=3490

Its covered with loads of extras by comparrison to yours, plus it came with a box of goodies.

At £3400 you paid well over the odds I'd expect that for people spending anything above £2000 looking for a standard K7. sorry mate, as I said before I feel for you. If its not going to cost you your house or anything then I strongly reccomend you hold onto it.

It maybe worth giving Haslemere Motorcycles a call http://www.haslemeremotorcycles.co.uk/ they brought my bike earlier this year. I got a fair price for it, speak with Mark there, good luck.

I lowered the Ebay price to generate some interest and actually get my phone to ring.

However, ironically, at the same time someone called me when the bike was at £2200. I explained that I owed £2400 so I could not accept less and had given up trying to sell it - and he said he would meet that price if I bought the bike to him in London with a lock and cover. So I did, and he paid in cash.

So bike gone, two happy people and at least it went for what I knew it was worth. I had a whole host of stupid offers on Ebay, and more fool them, as they are the losers of a fantastic bike.

Im not sure what next but I am looking at a budget of around £1k for something I can use now and again and be fairly reliable. Old VFR's and CBR's come in at that. Some great finds on Ebay.

I am just so glad someone paid for my bike, as I was continually receiving embaressing offers on Ebay.

I am still shocked at the experience of selling my bike and it is something I would certainly not wish to do again.

Next time I buy a bike I am going to take my time and really look for a deal.

Would look at CBRs too like you say.
