I am after a decent condition 125 road registered crossed or an enduro.
A friend is looking to get into greenlaning but hasn't got a licence yet so will be on leper plates for a short while.
Anything would be considered depending on condition and age etc.
He's looking to pay upto about £1500.
If it's not road registered, then it is possble to get it registered but wil be looking for a lower price due to the costs of registering it.
Anyone know of anything?

Ahem... would a Husqvarna Wr125 tickle his fancy?
I've got it on eBay for £1600 but there's always a deal available for an 'Orger of course!?
Certainly I'd gladly knock off the eBay / PayPal fees that I'd be saving for starters, and I really need to sell this!

I did look at yours and said to him about it but distance is the real issue there.

I've got a trailer and would be happy to do a half-way stop if that helps things any...? I'm actually heading down to Preston / Wigan tomorrow to possibly pick up an SV with a pal, so I might even be able to combine the two trips?
The deal with this is I bought it off a mate who's gone over to Oz for a year, I've used it for playing on for the past couple of months and now just need to get the cash back on it for a house deposit.
I've stuck a set of tyres on it (both are from another mate that races and he's changing his tyres after every race, so these are almost new), put a new gear lever on and given it all a good checking over.
It runs really well, brakes etc are all good - it's just a luxury I can't afford to have at this moment in time.

I had one in the '80s for a short while, brilliant.

I meant a much newer one than that lol, mine was a 2003 plate and it sold for £1200 18months ago with only 12000on the clock. Recon you'd pick up a bloody decent one for £1500 and their nationally reccognised as a brilliant learner bike so you should be able to pick them up nationally pretty easy.

God that sounded harsh, didnt mean to. I just meant for £1500 you'd be looking at one much newer than one with the triangle swing arm from the 80's, mental as they were.

I'll have a word with him about your James and see what he says.
Thanks for the offer to trailer it too :)
as for the dtr125 idea, I had oneyears ago with a cr250 front end on it years ago and know they are a great little bike although a little heavy out on the lanes.

Im only 5'6 the seat height (910 IRRC) was the biggest issue, never struggled much with the weight but I've only the KMX to compear it to and that thing was made of cast iron so its not really a fair bench mark.

I know he won't want a bike that old or one that's been lowered.
There's other rm125 round here that are cheaper than that one too!
By the time that one got road registered it would put it over 1000 for a 1996 bike?! Lol

There is no real hard and fast rules for us to follow except the VOSA rules which are a real pain as they go into the ins and outs of everything on the bike..
Speaking from my own experience here, the first thing you have to do is insure the bike on a frame number, get an MOT on the bike using the frame number and then book it into the DVLA for them to "inspect" it.
The inspection can be anything from a VOSA inspection where they will look at everything from play on the bearings to measuring the distance between the indicators or you may get lucky and get an inspection at your local DVLA office where you will have to take the bike (on a trailer or in a van) for someone to come out, check the frame and engine numbers and measure the seat and sump height.
Once the inspection has been done, you have to purchase a tax disc, give the DVLA the MOT certificate and prove you have insurance.
the mot certificate and tax disc goes off to Swansea where your bike will be allocated an age related registration number (if you cant prove the age, you will most likely be allocated a Q registration).
You will receive your new paperwork (including tax disc and new MOT certificate) in the post which you can then take to get your plate made up.
The insurance is a con though as you will get stung for a high premium on the frame number insurance cover and then you will have the cancelation costs or "admin fees" to transfer the cover over to the registration number.
If your bike gets registered on a Q plate, a lot of insurers wont touch you as they are seen as a "higher risk" for some reason (not my words, an insurer inthe past when one of my bikes got a Q plate).
The above is why, preferably he would like to get a registered bike..
