hey guys
need your help with somthing, i have a mate that has a YZF R6 2000. that has a rev limiter on it. it will only rev up to around 16k - 16.5k. i now that the rev limiter is in the cdi/ECU somewere.
now i know with the SV that you can buy a little box off ebay that you plug in and it removes it, or you can just remove some wires witch do the same job.
the question i have for you is. dose anyone know if you can do this to a YZF R6. if so how do you do it. or what do you have to buy to do it
iv spent around 4 hours searching the net and a r6 forum and can not find anything :(

Powercommander? ?
You really don't want to be raising the rev limiter. Are you not thinking of the TRE mod?

TRE Mod ???
what is wrong with raising the rev limiter ? he wants it so it redlines and not jsut revs to 16.5k were it sounds its geting louder and not much elsa.
is there a lot you have to do to change this then ?
what is wrong with raising the rev limiter ?
Nowt as long as you don't mind getting a cylinder head in your fuel tank.

There's lots to do when you blow your engine  Is he racing? Or just willy waving?
TRE mod : http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Nikko-De-Restriction-G-Pack-Yamaha-YZF600-R6-99-00-/350274698461?cmd=ViewItem&pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item518dffbcdd#ht_2104wt_941
(I have no idea how credible that mod is on that bike)

There was a really really interesting thread on rev limiters recently relating to daytona 675's. i think embee was the man with the very knowledgeable post about why you can't just go higher willy nilly. I'll have a look for it.

Willy Waving. this is the sort of mod i was looking for but dose it really work as they also do these for the sv and poeple say dont waste your money just remove these wires ect.

thanks :)
he only wants to do it so he has more revs he is not gonig to be redlining it in each gear all the time.

reading this it looks like its not such a good idea but then again that thread is about doing it to a race bike whitch is going to be ragged where my mates bike wont be ragged any wear near as much as a racebike

But the race bike will be at the correct temperature, with fresh oil and lots of tlc. Hence why I suggested in that thread it can be done, and that in this case that it shouldn't.
Is it just that the needle doesn't go in to the red? Frickin' change the surround if that's the case

i see your point. nay its not because it dose not go into the read bit its becuase it dose rev up yes it revs fast but it stops at 16.5k and sounds horrible clocks say it go up to 18 why build a bike the limit it anyway ??? if it is bad for it to rev that hig why make it so it can ?
looking at that item on ebay it says that it only changed the limit in 2 gears witch is the same idea as the sv is there anywaqy to make it so it can redline in each gear ?

Yamaha got in poop in the USA for selling the R6 with over 17000 redline when the limiter was 16 and a bit, had to offer to buy everyones bike back. No one took them up on it, so they say.

tbh The R6 runs out of power before the redline anyway so in my eyes it is uterly pointless, just hit the limiter for that bit longer.

Forgot to mention dont spend the money on that crap it will do nothing.
Tell him to buy a GSXR750.
Job done.

16.5k revs.
there aint gona be anymore power after that.
that has got to be near enough the redline. yamaha put it at that for a reason.
and also the 2000 r6 is carbed so can you even get power comanders for them.

Sorry but are you and your mate completely fookin daft?
Clocks on your SV go up to 160 right... what does bike top out at? :smt082
KE = 1/2 mv^2, you figure adding an extra 2000rpm might add a teensy weensy bit of stress to the rods?

Nahh it'll be reet. They're just revs. Without a rev limiter any engine can rev up to eleventy millions easily. It's those manufacturers, they conspire and such to spoil our fun and sell us bigger, lighter or stronger engines for going faster (Do they think we're mugs?), when really all that's needed is removal of our rev limiters.

Pretty much every sportsbike is in the same boat though! The problem with the R6 was they used the 17.5k redline as a selling point, which was false hence the buy back option.
I had a 2006 during that fiasco and Yamaha never offered to by mine back! That said, I wouldn't have sold it to the either!

Plus in terms of mechanical hours, a race bike does waaaaaay less than a road bike. Probably gets an oil change every 100km as well!
Besides, I never increased my redline in the end - just altered my gearing. Also, I was talking about a raise of 500rpm, not 2k  which I would use for 2 particular corners on 1 particular track. I'd keep my shift lights set at the same level so in theory, the increased redline would rarely be reached.

I read the rev counter on some R6's intentionally over-read so the bike appeared to be revving a lot higher than it actually is.
I'd leave it to be honest, surely looking at the road when at high revs is a better idea than worrying the needle won't go round further!

The rev limit factories apply to bikes are to allow for endurance of the engine (100k plus). The R&D's spend tens of millions on endurance testing of engines to find the ultimate final life.
If you are raising the rev limiters on your bikes for road use, I personally woudn't want to be the next owner.
A moto GP bike redlines around the 18k mark which is around 1,500k less than 2009 to provide endurance to a highly strung motor.

Yep, I removed the limiter on my SV and now it revs to eleventy millions, I can do 100mph in first gear! It's amazing. If you go to my ebay shop I'll sell you the kit to remove your rev limiter, for just £29.95. If you go for the PRO package (£39.95) you can rev to eleventy millions, or with a remap, rev to other fictional-obviously-made-up-how-could-you-ever-have-thought-I-was-serious-my-entire-post-is-absurd numbers, like sixventy-thousillion-millions rpm :)

My shoes probably have more mechanical knowledge than me and even I realise that a rev limiter is there for a bloody reason!!
