This week my plaster cast came off so I've started applying shark liver oil to the incision site which is supposed to be brilliant at fading scars.

Anyone else tried it?

Weird ingredients are great. To the repulsion of my friends I apply 'Sheep Placenta Creme' to my face every night - I get it brought over from New Zealand and it's the best moisturiser I have found (and at £6 a tub, way cheaper than Elemis, Clarins and Clinique).

I've not used shark oil or sheep's placenta but I have used arnica to get me over some bruises / injuries and I think it works :)

Not heard of anyone who`s used it but bio oil is extremely good at minimising scar tissue. Am really interested in the sheep`s placenta tho!

Loads of skin creams used to use human placentas. Some even used aborted foetuses. I don't think either are allowed these days.

What I want to know is, who first discovered that rubbing ground up afterbirth on your skin made you look younger?

I use tea tree oil to help stop wounds getting infected, and I've found it helps them to heal quicker

In my Cycling weekly, there was a feature on Cryogenic chambers being used in the healing of injuries. Intense cold for 3 mins then out into the warm which improved the blood flow to the injury site.

As you work in the London area you could check it out?

I used Emu oil on my leg after an anterior cruciate repair, and can't see the scars.

Rod Hull would be devastated. I think he caused a few scars :D

I did use a Russian face cream that contained human foetus extract. Once I spotted that on the ingredients list I threw it away!

i kinda find the whole rubbing dead human into your skin a bit werid, almost kinda canablistic :pale:

I might want some aborted shark fetus placenta mush for my knee if it works.

:( I could have brought you in some bio oil if you'd given some warning

I have used Bio Oil, even had a few drops in the bath, but my scars are too numerous and deep for it to really have a chance. I think that the first surgeon to work on me, used a mig welder to seal the wound! :-(

I wonder how much is down to it being shark oil rather than just oil of some sort (vitamin E oil), keeping the tissue pliable or something like that?

I also wonder what effect using/promoting shark-based products has on the dwindling population of sharks. Bit like bear gall-bladder and tiger parts...

How disgusting.
I use Aveeno Colloidal triple complex oatmeal moisturiser for my eczema, and I've started using Bio oil, to stop old stretch marks getting out of hand while I'm pregnant.

Shark oil just sounds like mumbo voodoo carp, that does no good but harm to sharks. As for placenta of god knows what....TMI

But there's something rather nice about rubbing your face all over certain parts a live human being of the opposite sex. Kinda brings to mind a song by Monty Python.

Another thumbs up for Bio oil here, I've used it on numerous scars from removed piercings and they're hardly noticeable now.
