View Full Version : Gizza Job
I have just been 'invited' to a meeting tomorrow (over the phone) with one of our Senior Managers to discuss the impact of yesterday's announcement of 600 RBS head office jobs to be cut - looks like mine will be one of them:mad:
Sadly I am not one of the (b)ankers that get mega-bonuses, and my salary, even after 22 years, is a lot less than my age. I have calculated my redundancy package and it would only repay about 1/3 of my mortgage, which sucks. However, as my mortgage is also with RBS then quite tempted just to say :smt097.
At the age of 40 the thought of having to start again is not good, especially as my wife is out of work at the moment.

Hey MattSV,
Sorry to read that you are facing an uncertain time. I know how demoralizing it can feel, but you will get through.
Good luck and don't give up hope.

Is that an open offer?
Yeah, gimme £25 and you have got a deal.
I think tomorrow will be the start of the 'consultation period' - likely outcome from tomorrow I think will be - "We need to lose X staff from your grade, if you want to apply for voluntary redundancy your options are...., if not then we will tell you in a month whether you still have a job or not..."

That sucks. Just been through something similar myself. Hope it works out ok. Still could be worse, you could have a bike with blue or even a red seat on it ;-)

Errrrr......sod off Mr Jealous pants.
Bugger! Know how you feel though. Been sitting here for the past 4 months waiting for the axe to fall over my head. At least it will be short notice for you. :(
That suck's Matt - fingers crossed it's the "as we're loosing a few people, I need to you do x, y and z tasks inaddition to your current role" type meeting.
Seems like every company is at it our Company are going through the same thing :( good luck Matt

Dude.
: (
I'm at RBS Insurance, where the remaiing 2000 jobs are to go. Theyre talking outsourcing non customer facing jobs to India, and reckon some 12% of the workforce in the insurance arm have to go. As one of the smaller offices, it's forseeable that we could be one of them to go....
Feel for you mate!
Which office are you in JuJu - Alton?
I notionally got a job at Directline in Croydon. When I started 8 years ago, RBS hadn't really got too involved in running Directline. There were about 7 DL offices in Croydon. NOw I think there's two. And this building is 1/3 empty. All the big offices and jobs that have been aquired are places like Leeds, Liverpool, Doncaster, and places frankly cheaper than Croydon. There is space at the old Churchill Head office in Bromley, but that's an arce to get to. Wait and see I guess.
I work in the claims dept (motor pi). Still pretty much exclusively for DL, so it was irony to be bumped off a couple of weeks ago by a DL driver!

Ah Matt, that's horrible news but try not to worry about tomorrow yet. If it's only you that's been called by phne into a meeting, you may be being drafted in to assist with it all. If you've been there a fair while, which it sounds like you have, there will no doubt be lots of other employees that will be much cheaper for them to pay redundancy to then you.
Whatever happens, you know where we are if you fancy a break. Keep as psitive as you can and update your CV just in case.
Big hugs to you and Anita x

Keeping my fingers crossed for you Matt... I really hope that this isn`t what you think it is, very best of luck and love to you and Anita x
Thanks guys.
Good news all round for me.
Had the meeting today, and have been told that my role has been mapped over - so basically I still have a job, however actual role/responsibilities might change a bit.
It is the same out come for the rest of my team, others however are not so lucky.
I have also been told that there will be a vacancy advertised at a higher grade that 'I might be interested in' - getting a promotion at the moment would be a right result!

That's fab news Matt and being told about that vacancy is a nod that they want you to apply, so go for it!
I'm chuffed to bits for you and Anita, I bet you had a worrysome night last night, so go out, get a good bottle or two of wine and have a good evening xxx

I really hope that this isn`t what you think it is,
How awful in this time of uncertatinty for them to make you sweat it overnight, shame they couldn't have been clearer over the phone. But great news that it sounds like it's turned out OK.

Good news!! Hope the promotion prospect goes well x
Redundancies suck, but they can also provide new opportunities. Over the years I've had two promotions following on from big redundancies.
