I pretty damn sure you cannot transfer them.

I was under the impression I could use the bike NCB. It wasn't until they sent the forms through the post that I had to prove I'd got the NCB. Since the car and bike are through the same company I give them a bell, as soon as I told them my car policy was void and I have to start a new quote.

So in short, with Express Insurance it's a no.

its daft becuase you cant use the NCB but you have to declare bike claims. so really imo you should be able to use them, as they take into account your claims so why not take into account your NCB

* I think some one on here said there are one or two company's that do *

CIS used to allow you but I have no idea if that is still the case or not..

Officially no, you can't

But if you phone the insurer concerned I know of people who have several years bike NCB who have received several years car NCB as a goodwill gesture

Note, this isn't a car insurance company accepting bike NCB on a car policy, but the insurer giving you X years NCB at their discretion. You cannot say on any application form that you have "X years NCB" - you have to call them and ask

Probably works best with companies that insure both cars and bikes

Many insurers will credit you with NCB as a result of driving history. For example my daughter got 4 years NCB on her first policy as a result of being a named driver on my policy etc. At renewal she got 5 years and offered protected NCB etc.

Thanks guys. I have not owned a car in ages and used the wifes all these years. I think you can find an insurer that will allow you to use ncb from a policy you have been on so going to try that now.

Apparently she called them this morning and because she changed insurance companies 8 months ago i need to wait another 4 and then they will give me a year of ncb on my own policy. Might be worth doing that and in meantime do a monthly policy in her name. Need to look at the figures to see which route makes more sense.

who was she with before then, if you were named with the previous company i thas been known that to win business they will give you some NC also,

Happened to me when I called CIS, hadn't been with them for a year but they gave me 2 yrs ncb as they had record of me driving for 2 yrs as a named driver

Will have to ask her as can not remember who she insured with before.

However i emailed ebike who also do cars (ecar) and asked if they could help. Got a reply saying that since i had full ncb gained through them they would allow me to use that ncb on a new car policy and still have the bike policy. Will have to get a quote later. Now i have the misses asking me to put car in her name and insure in her name as she does not want to lose her full ncb (she drives a company car and we just sold her 2nd car it replaces.
Good to know ebike will help if i need em

+1 they allowed me to transfer my bike NCB to my car but only when I didn't have a bike. Don't think they allow it similtaneously. You might have trouble transferring it back afterwards if you get a bike again too.

If you are worried about that it might be an idea to buy a C90 frame or something which you can insure for peanuts to keep an NCB going.

On calling Ebike it turns out i can transfer it ti a car policy but can not use the ncb on another policy at same time....oh well i will try some of the other places suggested

You cant use a NCB on two different policies anywhere. The best you can get is to transfer it from bike to car policy and that is hard enough. As said above you may be able to get an introductory discount in the form of a nominal NCD for a new policy by asking your existing insurer.

Just to update....after talking to Ebike?ecar once again to ask exactly what is covered etc they said that i can in fact have my bike one 1 policy and at the same time have a car policy and they will allow use of the full ncb on that too. However it is cheaper to have the car in the wifes name by about 80 quid for the same level of cover but with Swiftcover insurance.
So it can be done but only after all.
