Hi all,

About to have a rant, so bear with me!
I bought myself my first ever brand new pedal bike the other week - nothing too flash or fancy - in fact the cheapest one they had in the shop. Anyway, had it less than 2 weeks when I chained it up with 2 locks at Kings Cross station and in the morning, gone. Gutted.
Now what's even worse is I've just had my Visa bill through with the £200 the bike cost me still to pay on it.
Theiving gets. Hope you get run over by a bus.

Rant over,
D

Sorry to hear about this. Was it not insured? What about your house insurance?

Not insured seperately. Will try the house insurance and see what happens...

there must be cctv cameras around that area. Have you reported it to the police?

Yup. There's at least 1 camera right next to the bike racks. I reported it but they said as there would be a lot of CCTV to look through and as I couldn't be more precise about when it was stolen they probably wouldn't be investigating it further.
They gave me a leaflet on being a victim of crime though... that really helped.

Bummer! I can lean my bike against the side of a shop here and it stays there! Some people have no respect. With luck their next rock of crack is contaminated and they end up with lung damage. Next bike - spray it with rust-red primer and take the saddle with you!

Does it say shut up and take it like a B****? Is there any point to the police if they can't investigate a crime? It is the ENTIRE reason for there existence. (Thought I'd join in the rant LOL!)

they are useless. I had my CBR125 nicked out of my back garden, rang the police and went looking for the swines (I know where they go). That was about 10.30pm. Got to the area where they normally rag it around on the park and there they were, rang the police told them I'd just seen them on my bike. They got to the park (allegedly they turned up) at midnight. MIDNIGHT :smt013 needless to say i was a little bit annoyed.

The bike only turned up because my missus (who works on the park) was speaking to a couple of park users and they said they'd seen a bike up against a building nearby behind some bushes. It was a mess - scratched to hell, missing plates, mirrors, petrol cap, indicators. Police went down and were shown a knife stuck behind a sign just above it - he grabbed it and said "we can't use it as evidence" then chucked it in the back of his car. The police round here are a disgrace

Some good did come of it though - compo paid for my direct access and half of my SV :D

Bad luck dude. I've had so many bikes nicked its untrue. I stopped reporting them after the 3rd. police don't give a ****. Too much work I guess. far easier to nick people for speeding....or am a cynical ;-)

i got the same stupid leaflet too. I thought no I don't need counciling, I need my ****ing bike back!

Claim on your Visa card - sure it's covered ( unlike debit cards )

a long long time ago, a mates bike was nicked from outside the pub. Unfortunately for him, the thief was recognised.

about 40 angry bikers converge on his house and he is dragged out. When his garage door is opened there is newly nicked bike and 3 others. By the time the police arrived both his hands had been put on the kerb and a lump hammer applied.

Nobody knew anything, he did not know who had done it etc. (btw it wasn't me). But I doubt he was ever again capable of gripping a set of bars.

Think that's only for companies not delivering or folding, not theft...

I've claimed against loss and theft on my visa before but it was a while ago so they may have changed the rules.
For the cost of a call I'd give it a try.

I hate bike thieves, filthy scum who should be manacled and pelted with old sprocket sets! While working in a bike shop I saw too many people who lost their locked up and secured bikes because Bike nicking scum think it is fine to do it. The saddest part was seeing kids who had been robbed while riding. That is just plain nasty.

Haha, im sorry but that was a funny post.

That is ridiculous that they wont check the camera, all they have to do is put it on play x8 and keep an eye on the bike. When it disappears, then whiz it back a little bit. Lazy c*nts!

I'd write to the sun news paper

So would I, if they could read it!

small update... tried a few of the suggestions on here but haven't really got anywhere. The mastercard company only insure it if it was broken or damaged on delivery, not for theft and the home insurance has an excess of £200 so no joy there either.
Not wanting to get into any police bashing (my wife's a detective btw!) but I had the same initial reaction as everyone else. I was surprised to get a phone call on Sunday night though saying they were now going to review the CCTV footage... not holding out much hope anymore but at least there's a bit of effort being shown.
In the meantime, if anyone in the London area has a cheapo crappy (but still in working conidtion) bike that they want to get rid of, drop me a PM!
