In sales and Marketing... :smt100

Any tips?

I had a lovely chat with the Manager today so know a little, however she seemed really excited by my CV...

If I expect rejection, I can't be disappointed and wont worry about nerves. :smt036

I will be riding over on my bike, so can go for a ride after or visit my brother. Hmm, choices... Family or Ride? :D

Erm don't expect rejection... For sales you need to be outgoing and confident.

Google sales competencies and read up on them, they are fairly straight forward and think of an example for each.

Edit: oh and good luck :p sell yourself.

Good luck, Ms Flakes. I know nothing about sales and marketing, but I've got quite a bit of experience of job interviews, from the interviewing side of the table. Be positive, friendly, enthusiastic and honest. If you don't know something, don't BS but express an interest in learning. If you're asked a question about your worst feature, then try to spin it into something positive.

Treat every interview as an opportunity to improve your interviewing skills.

Good luck!

I always seem to get offered the job when I go in thinking "not sure I really want this job". Strange but true! I think it relaxes me a bit more than normal, no pressure... Anyhoo, agree 100% with everything wyrdness said.

One other thing though, are you sure taking the bike is the best idea? I always dig out the good suit, and try to look my best for an interview. Knowing you look the part gives the old self confidence a boost as well, and I know I never look my best coming of the bike!

Good luck Jayne!!

I'm with Philbo... ditch the bike (for the day only...) and look the part.

"So, what weaknesses do you have?"
"I'm really impatient. I like everything done yesterday!"

As is my way with these things, I like to know a bit about the company I am going to see. Should it worry me that I have found a whole load of complaints about them on line?

I think I may have found a reason for high staff turn over. Carol and I are both worried now.

Oh well, if it is pooh, nothing lost and if it is good, I am in luck. We will just have to see.

As you know i`ve been trying to get one of these job things for a while, but i`m still no expert on interviews.
Apart from the usual : get a good night sleep, try and relax ( i`m always a bag of sweaty nerves :( ), smile, be friendly and confident but not arrogant, type stuff, I try and find out about the company, and also take the opportunity to ask questions at the end of the interview, it shows your actually interested in working there. I normally go for " What would you say is the best thing about working here ? " Gives you a chance to get your own back and put the interviewers on the spot, I like doing that :)

I normally assume I haven`t got a job as its less disappointing when its true, waited 3 weeks to be told they`d given a job to someone else after I was told I was the favourite for it, b&%$rds. Though I had an interview on Thursday which I should find out about soon, and i`m confident about, can`t wait to find out.

Good luck tho :) First one to get a job buys the drinks :)

Personally I would...I mean if they treat customers in such a way that there are many complaints just how are they going to treat their staff?

As you said nothing ventured nothing gained...good luck

Personally I would...I mean if they treat customers in such a way that there are many complaints just how are they going to treat their staff?

Now this was the pertinent question.

Anyway, I had a brilliant day today. :p

Got up nice and early and got ready for the interview and pulled the bike out of the garage. The ride to Bristol was amazing at that time of the day despite a lot of traffic. I got a little bit lost and missed my turn off on the M5, but just whizzed up to the next one to turn around. :geek:

Filtering through Bristol traffic was a combination of terror and ecstasy and it was the first time for me in a rush hour of that intensity. I parked up in the middle of Bristol and and locked my little girl up (my bike, not a female child because that would be weird!) in the bike park. :smt068

I arrived at the interview place politely early and was given a form to fill in and shown to a leather couch. The room was full of other applicants and this is when things got strange. Despite being on time, I was made to wait nearly an hour for my interview. The Office team seemed to be very well dressed foreign staff, however when one of their current employees turned up they seemed rather disinterested. He was asking for his photo ID, but they told him that he was fine and did not need it...

I was finally called in for an interview that lasted just under two minutes. She apologised for wasting my time and wished me a good ride home. Turns out it was not for a job, they are a door to door sales company and they are looking for people to do the walking/selling part. To do so, one must be a self employed independent contractor and pay is commission only. For every customer signed up, the contractor is paid fifteen pounds.

So how many of you on here would like to have your door bell ring and when you answer you are then be asked by a complete stranger about your personal financial situation? To me it sounded immoral and quite wrong. I do not like Cold Calling on the telephone, let alone at the front door. The job advert I replied to was for a Media Sales Job, it said nothing about door to door sales.

Oh and just for fun, the office running this sales company was also the head office for a Krishna cell.

In a half glass half full kind of way, I met some really interesting people today! :D

The ride home was cool, I popped into see my good friend Wayne and we sat in his garden for a couple of hours just chilling out while he worked on fitting some Titanium bolts to his race bike.

Oh well, no job. But the experience was brilliant and for reasons I can't quite explain, I feel like I had a confidence boost. :rave:

Shame about the job, but at least you had a cool day :)

I got word that I didn`t get that job I wanted either, ba$Łards :(

If someone turned up at my door asking about my finances i`d tell em to legit. Sod that for a laugh.

The search continues...............

Sadly jobs of that sort mis-represent themselves in job adverts, sales adverts are full of these type of operations. I would suggest that if these are the roles you want try going through agencies they will weed out these type of interviews for you so you dont waste your time next time.

Good luck for next time.

lots of those companies about, its a pyramid system, guy at the top earns crazy money. they promise you lots and you sell crap gifts door to door or some companies npower etc. But you nver really make any decent money. I had a friend that did it for a year no idea how he managed so long but then finally realised all the BS they have been selling him about futures and quit
