Every guy watches a bit of porn but its abut stupid to use a work laptop to do it,
unless you have the skills to clean it up lol.
work in the I.T department im a techie and I have just found a load of porn in the temp internet files by the looks of things its a regular thing lol.
Some good sites actually hahah jokes aside.
Its my job to report this kind of stuff.
But I don't want to put a mans job as risk though over a bit of blue you know what I mean.
but if my boss got his hands on it and checked then sees that I haven't done my job right then I am in the crap.
and I'm not going to delete it as I am then braking the rules my self.
I think I am just going to give it back and pretend I didn't see it.
what would you do in my shoes ?

I found stuff on work laptops numerous times, usually when copying someones data over from old to new laptop...
I always reported it to cover my own back... depends on the workplace I guess
if its just stuff in the internet cache though, i'd have probably ignored it as they'd eventually get caught when someone looked at the logs anyway
clearing out the internet cache is a perfectly normal routine procedure, either for diagnostic purposes or just for keeping things tidy.

If you know how to (if it can be done, I have no idea) you could get rid of the evidence and have a little word and say if it comes back again with this on it then you have to report it.
Everyone's a winner, you're the nice guy who will get a pint bought at the next do

A welcome bit of common sense :o
Then read the "Irony" thread about George Orwell.;)

but if you hadn't checked for porn but cleared it out anyway, no-one would be the wiser. Therefore no-one can say you did your job badly - unless your work procedures dictate that you must go through the user's internet cache to find out what they've been up to.

we use to use one guys browsing history to populate our blacklists.
However two incidents spring to mind
The first I had been told of an accountant being "naughty" and had to have two quiet words with him. We had a bar on site and on the third occassion I happened to catch him with his colleagues in the bar. I walked up to him and lifted his hands. "What are you doing?" "Looking for segs". He went bright red, his colleagues laughed and the problem stopped.
A second incident I was alerted to a staff barrister who had been browsing very inappropriately and due to his position I went to see him. His office was in disarray. "Has anyone been using your PC today?" "Only me". "It would appear it has been used to browse porn for most of the day", "Yes, it is my final day here today and I was bored". No further problem.
I am a firm believer in cleaning browsing history/cache etc. and then to use an eraser tool to overwrite where those files used to live.

A good plan at this stage. However, obviously do keep tabs on the user - if he doesn't heed your warning, it may be necessary to escalate it at some point further down the line.

Lets be honest, unless it is illegal, it is much more likely to embarrass the user and thus stop if you have a gentle word with them. A bit silly to risk your position by having that in your browser though, so your words may well wake them up to what they risked. Good luck, just do not black mail them, because that can back fire too! ;-)

Can't you clean it out for him and say you never saw it
Also install Crap Cleaner on his PC and set it to run automatically at Start up :o

Quiet word this time, but if like us you have weblogs which are kept, then clearing your caches make no difference. Just don't do it at work...
Actually we filter aggressively too, so it is rare you can actually get to a bad site, if you attempt and get banned my team get notified what site it was and when, which will also prompt a quiet word.

lol we sacked some wierdo after transferring some data to a new machine and suspect titles started flashing up as they were copied 'boy story 2', 'tim's tool' etc. Turned out productivity was low because he just sat watching gay porn - lovely!

If your boss knows how to uncover a history entirely deleted by yourself then why are you employed by him? :P

I haven't seen the episode, but that image alone is gold!
You should really keep a record of what you've done. Even if it's just a personal note you don't show to anyone. That way, if you do get found out, you can back up exactly what you did: 'had a quiet word with him guv, told if he did it again I'd have no option'.
First lesson when you join the civil service... always keep an audit trail! lol

You never looked at it, you just ran your normal disk cleaner or deleted cache via the browser and deleted it.
Don't even speak to the guy because he may then tell one of his colleagues that he got "caught by IT" but they deleted it and let him off. Before you know it it could be general knowledge in the office, one of the bosses finds out and it's you in trouble.
That's what happened to me, but luckily the boss was sound, I just got a tap on the shoulder a quiet word, and told to report it next time and the guy got sacked. The boss then insisted I show him the browsing history for the whole office off the proxy server, so I had to give it to him, and two more folk got sacked. One girl just for the amount of her day spent on the internet and another who was a senior manager for gay porn and gay dating sites.
