If I spend me wonga me wants a sofa that will last :)

Dfs, take ages to delivery, ours was delayed a few weeks too.
Never trust any retailer who has permanent 50% reduction offers, it just means their price tags are at least twice what they should be.
Most of the furniture sheds spring to mind.

not mine, i personally wouldnt buy a sofa, id rather spend the money on something electrical and use deck chairs lol.
Got ours from a Scs warehouse/end of line place. 50% off the 50%. 2x big big sofas for less than £700. And delivered within 4 days coz they were end of line/in store.
Pleased with the price and the service.

I hate sofa companies.
I found the sofas I always wanted, went to a national well known company. Paid deposit, and off I went hoping to have my new sofas within a few weeks.
Within those weeks I recieved a letter telling me they'd gone bust. I couldn't get my deposit back and I could have my sofas if I was patient.
6 months later I got those sofas. I was very disappointed, had to have someone out to look at the cushion inserts, had them replaced, and they still weren't right. I only had them two years when Peg moved in, and I couldn't wait to see the back of them when we were deciding what stuff of his was coming, and what of mine was going
Did I mention sofa companies are tw4ts!!!!

Shell, bought our previous sofa from dfs, well over priced for what it was, wasnt impressed with its longevity, £2.5k it cost, wouldnt go there again tbh.
Our present one is from scs and its the most comfortable leather sofa i have ever sat on, ask DMC he has slept on it with the fir burger (furry blanket lol), few people have commented on how comfy it is.
BTW, lose the cable ;)
Shellywoozle
27-05-10, 08:28 PM
Thanks Dizzy and Specialone :) and yes yes the cable is going in the wall ..... when I can be arsed LOL. Means taking fire place off, TV off (samson is good but his paws wont reach) ............ if it annoys you guys that much you can come do for me if ya so wish.
Sounds like you had a bum deal Dizzy, that is what I dont want to happen with some local companies .... hence the John Lewis way of thinking. DFS is a no no for sure now :)

Got ours a few years ago from SCS and would never use them again Shell.
We saw the style and pattern we wanted and it was really comfy in the shop considering lots of folk would have sat on the shop one.
After a few months the cushions lost all their firmness so we contacted them and they dragged their heels for months. I had to get an independant company to come and have a look to give their opinion before SCS finally replaced the cushions and the ones in the arms as well. They didn't last very long either.
I was advised that the best foam is cold cured!! not sure about that though .

My mother in law got a couple of sofas (not leather) from the Co-op in Stafford town centre and they are very very comfortable.

Hey Shell, we bought this...
http://www.dfs.co.uk/sofas/corner-sofas/new-martinez/
a few months back and it is like getting into a giant cuddle. It's modular so you can put the end into the corner gap and it becomes a big double bed....and 3-4 people can easily sit like that with their legs stretched out and not touch each other.
With it as in the picture, it will happily seat 5-6 people :-)
No probs with order or delivery, paid in full and got a little discount too.

Good thing about this new house is a sitting room downstairs and a sitting room upstairs. Leather sofas downstairs for the dogs......new sofa upstairs where they are not allowed...lol.
That said, if he's not using it as a bed and just comes up for cuddles, you could always get a throw!

You have no idea how much he looks like Stig in this photo...lol. Sooooo cute and cuddly.
Shell........not being funny, but get a sofa for you, not the dog. When he's clean he can come up...when he's not, he can wait. Best thing about scotchguard the guarantee is...for the next 10 years, if we spill something, a nice man come out and cleans it. If he can't.....we get a new one :-)

Shell....that link to the one at DFS.....AMAZING> I only saw the pic at first, not the link.
Do you know what's better about the DFS one in the link.....there is one side with a detachable section (actually the whole thing is probably modular like ours) BUT...that section that has no back on it fits in the recess of the sofa and you can lie down to watch films with your back against the pillows and your feet out in front....it's the way forward I tell you.....and an extra double bed :-)

Don't fret about them though...go sit on them. The one we got was one of only about 3 in all the sofa shops, DFS/SCS/Furniture Village and so on. This one we just sat in, looked at eachother straight away and said YESSSSSSS! :-)

Shell - i got
http://www.dfs.co.uk/sofas/leather/clarion/
in cream of all colours
it was delivered early and its been great so far - gets a monthly feed with renpur(sp) and never had any problems with them so far. DFS have been great and no prob's there but like GG says i fell in love with it and knew that was the one I wanted. Once both chairs recline and you put the stool in its mega comfy - we have fights with our guests for who sleeping on the sofa! (i got 3 spare beds too)
best advice - go and sit on them all and if your thinking of getting a recliner - go electric you get more choice in position than the manual and the arms don't suffer so much( use them to help pull the feet pad back in)
hope you get something you like though! and remember - you can't take the money with you and you need a treat occasionally

I was daft enough to pay cash for the asking price of a couple of sofas from DFS. It never occurred to me that in order to offer interest free credit to poor people, they pre-load the interest onto the asking price. Mug, I wouldn't do that again.
My last sofas came from doorway to value, not cheap, but not expensive for a couple of lazyboy sofas.
I am looking for a new leather corner sofa, anyone had any good or bad experiences with the main companies like DFS / SCS or would you go to somewhere like John Lewis etc?
If I spend me wonga me wants a sofa that will last :)Once we had ordered with DFS, then it was all good. One of the wodden fronts was damaged, so a quick call and a bloke was there the following morning. The are good qulity.
Ordering was another issue. All i can say is MEASURE where youa re going to put the sofa, as the ones in store may look small but they are not.

Very true that V....thank go this sofa was only in the last house for a few weeks as it swallowed up half the living room!
Deffo measure well shell....dept as well as length (oo er) ;-)
My mum ordered a 3 piece. I thought lets just measure it before we leave. Glad i did as the sofa was about 18" longer and the chairs were huge and no way on this earth would they have fitted. This is when DFS got a bit shirty saying that we can not change the order etc etc. The salesperson who sorted the order came over and asked what the problem is. Like we said to the manager, we didnt want to cancel the oprder, just amend what we were ordering. He said no owrries, found the paperwork, tore it up and we started again, getting 2 2 seat recliners, oh yeahhhhhh. Best things ever. It was one of the things that i missed when i lived with BBC! Now im back, oh yes! They will be going with me next time i move out  im sure mum wont mind
