It'll be consider gimmicky until the PC world catches up, comes up with an fugly copy when it will become the best thing since sliced bread. Or it just look like a fugly copy!

Catch up... Erm, I fail to see whats to catch up with. No USB or external connectivity, no external memory, to extermal keyboard for real typing, no leaps forward in tech or interface... Indeed the only thing that is new (for apple) is the book aspect. Who really cares how it looks... "I know, it is no better than what I got, but wow it looks good, ill buy it!" Catch up. :rolleyes:

i recon so, A friend has had his since they were brought out in yankie land (got someone to pick it up on their hols) Its nice, but its like a big phone, for example the only use i would have for it is when in inpatient to wait the 30 seconds for my laptop to boot for the interwebs.

Well from here it doesn't look any different to any other post I've seen on the forum, so a bit of a waste of money if you ask me. :roll:
:lol:
The only things that apple have on thier side is thier software, as in user interface and thier design aspects of their products. Both i feel are second to none. As for features, usability and expanability, i think that the world of the PC is far better.
Still, i would have an ipad, think its a ipod touch and think im a small child again and its just really big!! There is always the £130k version thats 24ct gold plated witha diamond encrusted apple logo...nice!!

I think the iPad is a bit pointless as a product tbh, but I have a sneaky suspision its more of a research product as I reckon the next generation of apple laptops will be in this format.

nope, I posted some weeks ago from a unit in North America :cool:
I dont agree that teh iPad is pointless, just not necessary for many people. It is a great platform for consuming information.
The way that one might be used, and therefore how valuable it may be is totally goverened by the tasks you do and the way that you prefer to work. Its actually surprisingly good as a web browsing platform for the sofa for me, I can be objective as I didnt pay for it.
I think a unit like this will eventually replace the way that you control your internet/cloud based information and resources. Think of it like a very powerful TV remote.
Its excellent for reading digital newsprint, magazines, web info etc.
Big gaps at the moment for me are;
1. No flash content. VHS vs BetaMax again, soon to be settled.
2. No multi user capability, thats a big problem in a household that wants to share these devices. Imagine being signed into the .org and your local DP pops around for a cuppa :-)
