Red Dead Redemption (PS3/xbox)

So I finally purchased the latest release from Rockstar games (same creators of GTA). I've seen the ads, and read the reviews, with many claiming it to be the third best game on the PS3 ever and ratings a consistent 9 - 9.5.

Well I got it yesterday and wow, I'm hooked already. It was sold out everywhere yesterday at the centre MK except one of the Game stores had like 4 copies left:)! I won't bother posting a mini review because I won't do it justice and you can read better elsewhere but I've not put it down since I got it (not good idea with exams less than a month away).

The Wild West + guns + horses + freedom to do what you want + poker + I could go on!

Any other orgers bought this game already? For those who were contemplating, it's well worth it. Looks like COD might get a bit dusty.

Been thinking about it but wasnt a fan of GTA4 ....but loved the old red dead revolver.
Is it more gta in style or is it a completely different game ?

Yeh GTA4 was alright, but it's a completely different game. I only mentioned rockstar due to the respect I have for virtually all the games they come up with, even going back to the ps2 days of GTA3 and Vice City.

If you loved red dead revolver though you'll most probably like this ever more.
I'd say its GTA similarity is the freedome of terrain, the fact you could kill any person riding past you and jack their horse/carriage, or pretty much do whatever you want within the given world - but it's a million miles from GTA.

For example, when riding between ranches/places of living you'll see bandits every now and again looting common farmers, so you can just ride on, help the poor sod, or just kill 'em all, then loot their dead bodies.
But then there's a gazillion other type things like this which are even better.

I got my copy yesterday, and tbh the last game that got me this hooked was Fallout 3, and im stil hooked on that, so i get this distinct feeling this game is just gonna get better and better :D

My girlfriend bought me this yesterday. Only played it for half hour yesterday but it's slow going. Fallout 3 was slow going too at first then I got addicted I hope it's just the same as that.

+1 i didnt like it at first but got completely hooked on it, one of the best xobx games i bought and it only cost me 15 quid


i have been thinking about purchasing RDR but i honestly couldn't see what's so appealing about a cowboy theme that can be so brilliant? im interested but not sold completely considering its probably about 40 quid

I thought the game was boring at first, but it gets better as you go on. I completed the story just and its very sad :-( Im now going to 100% it as a do with GTA, these are the only games i think are worth playing.

I wouldnt say it was better than GTA 4, but it comes close.

Im hoping rockstar will get stuck in to GTA 5 now, but knowing their history i reckon it wont be out until 2012.

Im now going to 100% it as a do with GTA, these are the only games i think are worth playing.

yeah show downs are the duels, even though ive fnished the story i dont understand them. Winning is hit and miss.

I love the dice game, buyng some dice to play at home lol.

I just played the multiplayer all last night pretty much in free roam... Of you team up with a few people, doing the gang hideouts are awsome.

Some of the sniper rifles are insane too, you can shoot someone with you even appearing on their zoomed out map. The Mauser pistol is also insane.

Whats the shooting arrangement like on this? Is it GTA style or more COD style? GTA I always thought was a bit strange.

ok the duels.

The crosshair flashes from red to red/white. Only hit RB when red/white.

The blue bar is you, it increases when you hit RB on a red/white. The red bar is the oppenent, as long as your bar is higher, you win.

Absolutely loving this atm. Probably the best console game I've ever played. Far superior to GTA4 imo. Just had a guy try and steal my horse, I whistled and watched with satisfaction as the horse bucked him off and ran back to me and while he was still on the ground a bear mauled him! Quality :D

As for dueling, there is indeed a knack to it. I've had about 30 so far (I cheat alot at poker:D) and managed to win them all, dunno how as I didn't really know what I was doing to begin with but seem to have it sussed now.

I dont understand where you find guns on multiplayer other than from dead people. It's impossible to compete with people that have buffalo rifles or Mauser pistols.

I found an awsome place yesterday. It was a fort with 1 entrance and then Gatling guns and cow cannons all over the perimeter wall, totally insane.

Nah it wasnt fort mercer from the first mission. Fort Mercer is tiny in comparison.

This fort is almost in the middle of the map. right on the edge of the hug valley with the river running down it. At the top of a cliff, the cliff is on two edges of the fort giving one entrance.

If I could find a map online I would know straight away but cant so will look when I get home.

That name rings a bell although I can't see the video at work.

There is about 3 gattling guns and 4 cannons. The cannons are insane.

If you get a posse in the you nearly impossible to get out. You need to sit back with a sniper rifle.

Managed to get a copy of this yesterday, so been enjoying a bit of a roam around the place, shooting random animals and already being a bit naughty, shooting people.

Ive already bribed people to keep them quiet, got drunk, slain a few marshalls after they chased me for bounty and killed a few bad guys too. Shaping up to be a really good game.

Havent tried multiplayer yet but that should be interesting...

Tempted by this but need to finish The Saboteur first (can only have one historical third person openworld action game at a time) and that might take a while... I'm blowing up every last piece of Nazi equipment zat is opressing ze poor French ladies wiz ze beeg boobees.

Too much to hope for but given when the game is set, a 'horseless carriage' easter egg would have been a larf.

I played this recently- what blew me away with it- apart from how good it looks- is how smooth the cutscenes are slotted in and the 'acting'- it is the closest I've played to being in a movie, I reckon.

Will be purchasing a copy at some point...
