Several years ago I'm helping a friend after they have had a flood. I'm taking stuff to the tip - she points to a box of LP's that are sodden and minging in the corner, mould growing already. I'm reluctant, but they have no record player and want them gone.
I stick them in my own garage, after they stop stinking I put them in the loft.
3 years later (this evening) I'm moving stuff about and decide to risk taking a look. The covers are mostly stuck together, but the records are pretty good - its mainly all late 70's and 80's stuff, a few picture disks.
And this:

Its a 1963 mono Beatles.

Now looking at ebay and google, some of these are worth less than a fiver, some are worth hundreds. If its the latter then they'll be getting a phone call - 'remember those old records you made me chuck out... I have good news for you - I didn't'

AFAIK picture discs were limited runs so are more desirable as are first runs, first singles / releases of artists that made it big etc.

i collected picture discs in the 70's/80's and still have them :D
they are only worth what someone will pay and ebay normally sorts that out.
i would be tempted to sell the lot under one auction.

I know you need dedication if you want to break them..

Quite simple, pick up a copy of Record Collector. Some picture discs are worth a small fortune, depending on the run length and of course demand. I have seen some beatles stuff go for the £500+.

If you do sell it as its worth a fortune, DONT do it on Ebay, find a record fair, or a collector in your area.

its a strange world -i got the grand total of £1.30 for a rare punk record by The Adverts on ebay...that was over 25years old in nr mint nick...we were lookuing at records the other day at a stall- Elvis Presley singles in nr mint nick ...£2 each! thats over 50 yrs old ....good luck but you will find any damage seriously depreciates the values..looking at the pic - that should clean up witha bit of soapy water , its the sleeves that are more difficult.... sometimes...
