View Full Version : Fail
Not all of me, just my left kidney.
Just back from the docs where I was told over the last couple of days I suffered acute kidney failure. So, back into hospital I go... happy days

Hope you're ok in there Lozzo. As said before, I only have one fully functioning kidney...the other has about 10%output or whatever you call it. Last time I saw a doctor for it was in my teens, not had a problem since.
Hope you get the same end result mate as I know only too well how painful it can be.

Thought you were being grumpier than usual,
How can you tell??:p
Joking aside, hope you're sorted, pain free and back home soon.
I've been to the docs today to get referred back to Addenbrookes for treatment for a neurological condition I had 5 years ago that's decided to return. The treatment is Lumbar Punctures.... can't wait :-(
Yay, big needles in the spine, rather you than me. I just have to put up with them shoving scaffold poles with cameras and lasers down my todger

Could be worse!?
Oh, probably not!
Hope it gets sorted swiftly and pain-free!!

Lets just hope thay have some extra long poles in stock then ;-)
The needles in the spine are just about bearable, cant feel the pain, just the needle grating against the vertebrae is quite a disturbing sensation.
Last time I had to lay down for a week after, if i tried to raise my head it felt like my skull was being crushed as they had halved the amount of cerebral spinal fluid in the void that is my head. Has to be done though, the alternative is permanent loss of vision and I cant ride my bike like that, can I??

Oh, you've heard then? ;)

Just get better, the women of Bedfordshire need you :p
Good god! You dont think I go doing that sort of thing on my own doorstep do you?
I've figured out that us men are fundamentally lazy things and can't be ar5ed with travelling any distance to have a go at another man for a little misdemeanour with their wife or girlfriend, so I tend to be naughty away from where I live, it's much safer

Me dads done with only one for 15 yrs so all is not lost Lozzo.
Thanks Diz. I've heard about your dad and it does give me hope. I really just want to get fit enough to do my ride to Malta in September, I'm going to be so gutted if I can't do it after all the crap I've had so far this year. It's the one holiday I think I actually deserve and properly need.

Unless it`s both kidneys affected then it shouldn`t be classed as acute Lozzo as it goes on a grading system.... I`m guessing from previous posts that it`s the one kidney involved and if it is then there are absolutely loads of people who function well on one kidney. Yes it puts strain on the other kidney as the one good one is trying to do the work of two but this doesn`t necessarily lead to ill health. Very best of luck and hope all goes well.
Malingerer!
Get your ar5e out and get some work done.
Seriously though GWS mate.

It is just my left one and I was quoting what was on my Path Lab docket that I'm to take for my blood tests today and what the doc said to me. Deffo says acute kidney failure, but I guess he could have overstated it.

Thanks, the condition has left me really weak and unable to move around with any urgency. I feel like I've been hit by a truck and had trouble moving my old TS250, which weighs nothing, out of the garage yesterday. Also got really bad pain all up my left flank. I'm back in to the local butche^^^^hospital today, but I'm damned if I'm letting them operate on me - that honour goes to Guy's in London.

My mate had 3 kidneys once, 2 duff ones and one partially working one. Duff one was installed by a dealership, then that failed. But rather than open him up, they left it in there
He's had another one installed by an independant garage, and this one is working ok
So you can get by on one good one Lozz, so hope you GWS
Bloody hell hun, just got your text :-(
Lots of love xx
Well just read through this whole thread. Hope you get it sorted out soon, and try not to let it get you down.
Have the doctors told you what they think the underlying cause may be?
quote from other thread:
I'm guessing you're a student at Guy's then?
Haven't got any spare kidneys have you? Before you suggest it, spicy chicken wings won't do the job I've got planned for them.
yeh I am. I see that's where you're coming for treatment. They are great down here. haha and don't worry about having to steal anyone kidneys just yet. We're all made with one spare;)

Wether it is acute or chronic has nothing to do with which kidney is involved. Acute renal failure is basically just a rapid decline in the ability of kidneys to filter stuff out.
Pre-renal causes - eg less stuff is finding its way to the kidney (heart failure, low blood pressure)
Intrinsic causes - kidney themselves are damaged/inflammed
Post renal - basically obstructive cause (stone/clot). Pee can't get to the bladder.
This is acute renal failure, nowt to do with which kidney is affected. Treatment and prognosis depends on what caused the acute renal failure.
I lost my 23 year old cousin some years ago because he was born with polycystic kidneys. He was on dialysis his whole life.
Anyway, hope all goes well!
