Haven't picked up a pencil and done a drawing for around 12 years. I love fantasy art, and thought I'd use it as a start.

A friend of mine encouraged me at the weekend to get sketching.
This took me about half an hour, and is unfinished. Its so big I couldn't get it on my scanner!

very good though
Thats really good!!!
I hated art at school, all those years ago, it was the painting. No patience. Drawing on the other hand, loved it.
Not done any for years though.
You should keep it up!! You're clearly naturally talented!!

I gave up when I did foundation course, as I didn't wish to do fine art, textiles etc. I wanted to go and do ceramics at degree, which I have A levels in, or set and costume design, which my art teacher found I had a talent for, and I used to paint all the sets at school. It was 12 years ago I stopped doing murals 10ft tall and hanging onto scaffold to do! Last one was in a nightclub which has now been demolished:(
To have a skill like that and not exercise it once in a while is a shame....I know other things in life take over.
But don't give it up!!

Well I've kinda not found the time, or should I say, not indulged in what I used to do.
So I bought a pad and pencils and thought I'd give it a go. I suprised myself TBH!
For someone who hasnt done it in 12 years you certainly havent lost the touch!! Fantastic to know you still have that skill after all this time, keep at it, use the time you have right now to your advantage for real you time!!
- just out of interest, you ever tried storyboarding??

I stopped drawing and sketching all those years ago, because I was so used to doing big murals, that stuff on paper was just terrible. Perhaps my time off has numbed the 'large scale perspective'.
No never tried storyboarding. I love fantasy art, but only as a hobbyist.

unfortunately drawing mechanical objects, even in a fun way, always come out wrong for me. Mind you saying that, I suppose if it was in an Ogri style, I might just get away with it!

Ugh, I try and try and I can never get anything close to that standard without tracing, and of course, tracing isn't drawing. That's a truly great piece of artwork there, should be very proud of it.

Tracing is always a good start for someone who isn't very artistic. Yes it is cheating in some respects, but everyone has to start somewhere. I think everyone does at school at some point TBH.
Years ago someone asked how I could stand on a scaffold and paint a picture so big and accurate without getting a projector to trace over the sketch with on to the wall.....I said I had no idea but it involved a hell of a lot of climbing!!

its easy to trace but hard to trace well, that what i always found, kinda hard to keep flowing lines and the such
Nice pic. She's hot. I would. What else can you draw for us ;-)
Na that's realy good though. I can barely draw a noughts and crosses table.

So what are you going to draw in 2022 ?
dizzyblonde
12-06-10, 12:10 PM
I have some photo's that I wish to use of two battling ponies, that I took some years ago at my sons christening. I may consider drawing something from them, within the few days. Its not a sight you usually see, so opting to sketch in a field with live prey isn't going to happen.
