View Full Version : Bike boot life expectancy?

Hi,
just wondering, how long are bike boots supposed to last?
The answer obviously depends on numerous factors, but the thing is my 2 year old (~20k miles) Sidi B2 goretex started leaking. I've nikwax'ed them but it hasn't really helped much.

Haven't really got a clue about what to expect in terms of durability.

A trip to HG is in plans now to check out the SMX5 WP me thinks.

Cheers

still got of proof of purchase for the boots? Goretex shouldn't be leaking. As long as the boots aren't totally shagged, they could go back to Gore for testing under their guarantee. HG should be able to arrange this. There's no time limit for the guarantee, its just a reasonable use/expected lifetime guarantee.

If found to be faulty, you'll get new replacements or a credit value towards a new pair.

Nothing to lose by trying!

Cheers,
They are still in pretty good nick tbh, the problem is I'm not sure if I can find the receipt, and I'm away to Europe in two weeks so might have to buy something waterproof anyway.

A bank statement with all the other bits blanked out would suffice as well I'm sure. Worth a shot anyway, even if you try direct through Gore or SIDI distributors. If you buy a new pair in the next few weeks, you could sell a replacement pair to recoup some moolah ;)

My TCX Goretex boots are still waterproof after 22k miles, 2 x offs and worn toes from track days. As has been said, I'd go direct to SIDI with a complaint.

The complaint isn't with SIDI, it's with Gore. You may have to go through your original retailer though for a warranty return. Some distributors are funny about that!

gore have a 5 year warenty on their products.

It's not 5yr, it's a "reasonable lifetime expectancy guarantee". I used to work closely with Gore, and they do honour their warranty on older products.

Even if you can't find the reciept, send them in anyway. A bank statement is better than nothing, and they can only say no!

Had a quick scan through my card statements but no luck there, I'll try checking my account later on.
Problem is I don't have the receipt and I can't remember where I've bought them from :/

Boots look like this now:

I'm thinking about writing to Sid Uk about the 5 year warranty, good idea?

I have a set of Alpinestars Ridge boots , the soles are worn out , the front are wearing through where the hem of my pants touches them , they have done 32,000 miles on the SV and about 7,000 on the Varadero . Used daily for 4 years and have seen the worst winters the UK has ever seen and are not leaking . I would love another pair and can`t find then anymore as J and S are full of Bull when they say they have them and you ride 50 miles to find they haven`t . Tosspots .

My AS SMX4GTex are 4 years old now and other than having some new velcro put on the flaps, they are still, cofortable, waterproof, and as far as i can make out, good for several more years. Soles are good. far better than my old Sidi Black rains!

I've dug through my old bank statements and found an PP transfer referring to the boots, found the PP transaction and the shop as well.

I can print a copy of the invoice :)

Update.

I've found the receipt and sent them back to the shop. I've been told they need to be sent back to the manufacturer.

Just had a call from the shop, Sidi refused to replace the boots on the grounds that they are too badly worn

I know the soles were worn, but only walking the boots have done is the 200m to the lock up and back! I had them for about 2 years and 15-20k miles, somehow I'd expect that the boots (from a proper manufacturer) should last a bit longer.

They are being send back to me with the paperwork now.
