View Full Version : Boys' weekend in Plymouth
I've been to Plymouth this weekend for the 675 site equivalent of the AR except we call it the Fest:grin::grin::grin: It was the second we've held. Based in Plymouth, we had 22 bikes - which seeing the site is far far smaller than this one, is damn good:grin::grin::grin::grin::grin: We camped at Venn Farm, Brixton, a few miles from Plymouth. Met up Friday evening, few bevvies in the village pub. Ride Saturday - we rode up through Tavistock and Holsworthy to Bude, then down to Newquay, and then south to Truro, across the Fal on the King Harry Ferry, around the Roseland peninsula, through St Austell, stopping off for fish and chips in Looe before doing the Torpoint twisties and the ferry back to Plymouth:cool::cool::cool::cool::cool: Wow some of the 675 bunch are a bit quick:cool::cool::cool: And then a few bevvies in the village pub.
Sunday I stayed on for the Plymouth Megaride - thousands of bikes in it, was terrific fun, especially at the end wandering round all the bikes parked up on the Hoe:cool::cool::cool::cool::cool: I got sunburned:rolleyes::rolleyes:
Wanted to meet the 24/7s but divvy Phil didn't switch his phone on:rolleyes:
It was a fantastic weekend, it's 250 miles from here to Plymouth, and the ride was about 240 - so 740-750 miles Friday - Sunday. It ****ed down on the M5 on the way home, it was more like a river than a motorway, and I got soaked:grin::grin::grin::grin: However I have some fairly mild sunburn so all's well.
It was the best weekend I've had in ages. The only bit of bother was that Lost's gearbox jammed in 4th. The hill up out of Boscastle is 20% - 1 in 5 - with a left hand hairpin half way up. So you can see why the bike refused to go up it. However we finally got it into 1st so he could get up the hill, but it soon started playing up and limped back to the campsite. The RAC fetched him it back to Eastbourne. But nobody came off, nobody crashed, nobody got a tug, all in all a fantastic weekend:cool::cool::cool::cool::cool::cool:
See, we could do a AR in Plymouth and explore Cornwall:smt039
Here are a few pics. They're not mine, they're Dave's, I've lifted them from his gallery.

And again...

King Harry Ferry (across the River Fal, from Feock to St Just in Roseland). £2 single is a bit steep but it's worth it as the views are stunning. That's Nige standing next to my bike, me in the hi viz on the right as I led this bit from Newquay. In the blue is my mate Ian - he lives just up the road from me. The road down to the ferry is very narrow and you have to stop quite some way back, we filtered of course. An irate Volvo driver decided not to take us all on.

On across the fantastic Roseland peninsula, through St Austell, and on to Looe for fish and chips:

This is Frank with his vack to us, with his fantastic SE:

On Friday night someone was snoring so loud that it kept peeps awake... I woke up at about 3 needing a pee and I could hear this great noise...
All in denial...
So Sunday morning Dave went round with his video camera and identified the culprit:lol: It was Spike.

LOL every camp has a BlueFlame don't they!
Love the quiet tones of the narrator, almost a David Attenborough nature programme....
Although I have to say this guy is quiet in comparison, Grant needs a field of his own.

Seem you had a good weekend. Sorry we missed you but the number you text was my work phone and I had stopped using it as I was starting a new job on the Monday.
You did a decent route with some amazing roads (I could have taken you to some local secrets had we met on the Sunday), many of which hit our weekend blast route!
