Hello y'all

Small question no easy answers. Much as i love my sv650 K9 it suffers from 2 problems;

Its a killer over distance, even though i've got a gel seat adjusted my riding position, ****ed about with the brake/clutch levers after about 70-100 miles my lower back aches. Which means i cant tour something i want to do next yr.

I want something with abit more grunt :).

Having said that the sv is an awesome bike i will miss it next yr.

Neway I'd like suggestions for my next bike afew things to note though.

-I dont want a supersports.
-Has to be comfortable for touring (not a sprint though seats/position is comfy but man was it heavy on the wrists (02model)).
-Price range 3k-5k (2nd hand).

I was thinking myself either a Z750 (SK's bike at the AR09 was awesome) plus I had my eye on one 3 yrs back or a Street Triple.

Anyway suggestions and thanks for reading.

I changed to a sprint for the same reasons, i dont find it heavy on the wrists, only when im in death grip mode ;) test ride a newer one with higher bars, you wont find a better bike for the money imo

Grunt aplenty, super comfy, fitted akrapovic full system, 18k miles and a great riding position....:riding:

a Suzuki GSX1400 :)

or as you say, a Z750 would be excellent, gorgeous bike, or you could go for the even better looking one again... the Z1000 :D

a later 1050 sprint, z1000 as the finish is better, faired 650 bandit, fazer with FI 2004 onwards as the problems were sorted.
Dullsville, vfr 800 pre v-tec
then the suzukis mentioned above

Ive always wanted to ride a VFR800 or higher, they look comfortable for touring? But someone who owns one will probably disagree..

I've had the sv ('00 model) for an year, and this month I managed to get it together and change the clip ons for proper bars. What a change!!! Should've done this waay back!

Basically, you get no more back, arms and shoulder pains. You do still get the numb bum, but you said you changed your seat to a gel one, so that should probably have curred this already.

Regarding power, I do feel the sv has enough for 1 up and is more then adequate for touring. But when 2 up, maybe it's a bit down on power...

Changing bars -> 200 quid
Buying new bike-> loads more..

My mates dad had a VFR800 for a year, after years of not having a bike, and then sold it again lol. I think comfort was fine, but he said it wasn't as smooth as he would have liked. Although he let his son (my mate) ride it once and he loved it (hes 20yrs old) and especially thought the V-Tec was pretty cool, and has a heck of a lot more grunt than his K3 SV650s. Other than that I think he thought it was top notch

Took a friend around the dealers in Bristol yesterday as he was looking for the exact same. He's on a CB750 now, but wants something that he can tour on cmfortably, but is still a bit more exciting and fun than the CB.

I took him to sit on a VFR800, Sprint ST 1050 which he loved but felt was too big for manchester traffic and filtering, he liked the gladius, liked the MT03 but he also like the sports position, just didn't want it to be so severe that he was leant over the tank.

So, I took him into Honda @ fowlers and asked if they had a few years old CBR600F, same as I got MBK to sit on. He LOVED it. He did quite a few miles on one in Thailand a few years back and forgot how comfortable they were. After all that he sat on, it's this that he wants to get in a few months time.

They are not supersports like the RR, but are still a very good looking bike, with a great seating position and will have all the power you want, just laid down differently to a twin.

HTH :-)

Get an older Fireblade 929 or 954

Much more comfortable than the SV and more modern sports bikes. Loads of storage space. And silly amounts of power.

Plus you can get a very nice one for the 3k or so you'd get for your SV.

Whichever bike you end up seriously considering, take it for a ride. I find sitting on a bike whilst stationary bears little relationship to how it feels whilst moving.

What about a Kwasaki ZRX1100/1200:

Nice looking bike in a brutal sort of way. I quite like them. Don't expect to do many mpg...

The new Suzuki GSX1250FA has had a very good review in Ride magazine and can be had for less then 7k. A lot of bike for the money.
