Is it the case that I have to lift the tank to top up the coolant level on my k3? Can you not just top it up via the radiator cap? Also is it normal for the sv to use oil? And what is typical consumption for regular riding?

Do you mean filling the system from empty? If yes then fill through the radiator cap, then fill the expansion tank. For topping up the system put the coolant in the expansion tank, to between the upper and lower limits when the engine is cold - if the system often requires coolant topping up something is wrong.
When in good condition it should not require a significant volume of oil between changes, the specific amount will vary dependant on a number of things, how it was run in, which oil is used, engine wear, exact use.
How much is yours using?

Well it got serviced last week and I checked the oil yesterday and it was just above L. It might be just the case that was all that was put in but ill keep am eye on it.

oil just after a change can drop as the oil is broke in, mine dropped after 150 miles.

I'll be doing the same from this afternoon!

Cringer - when you checked the oil was the bike on the sidestand ? If so that may account for the low Reading. Check it again with the bke upright and on level ground and see what the level is then.

No. I was sat on the bike while my gf checked the level for me. Not the most advanced way to check it I admit but knowing my luck it would topple on me if I tried to check it on my own. And when crouched down holding the bike upright to check you don't know for def if it is upright proper or not. The oil window would have been easier a couple of inches higher really.
