Modifying standard can?

Hi everyone. I am new to this forum.

2weeks ago I entered the world of the SV650S. I brought myself an 04 plate 650s and I am wanting to make a couple of changes but wanted some advice.

First of all I want to make my standard can louder. I have read up on taking out the baffle and putting in a bigger diameter pipe in instead. When reading about this loads of people have done it a have loved it. Is this a good idea or a waste of time?

Also I want to get a tail tidy for it as I think it makes the bike look a lot neater. Are there better ones and others and where is the cheapest place I can find one for sale?

Waste of time, I've seen all the "mufflerectomy" posts and it's just a load of bodge happy yanks. I'd recommend fitting an aftermarket pipe and save about 20kg too :)

Tail tidy and slip on pipe - ebay is as good a place as any, welcome to the forum.

I shall have a look. Slight problem with my exhaust system as one of the previous owners has welded all the pipes together :@ Should be ok to take an angle grinder with cutting disc to it shouldn't I?

Fitting a slip on can is a really easy job though :)

I actually looked at cutting the stock pipe to bits to install a perforated pipe and packing to make it into an absorption silencer but there is no point. The parts are so heavy it is pointless.

Do a search on fitting an aftermarket can, there's loads of advice from people on here that have done it.

Evotech tail tidy is a good one, apparently Hamicad are good also, I think Evotech are cheaper.

Re. undertail I fitted an R+G one recently to a K5 ish bike and was impressed with the fit and finish.

The pipes are welded as standard, you need to cut them.

And there was me thinking that someone else had them welded up. Angle grinder is the way forward with that then. Does anyone know a good sounding can, that is not over the moon to purchase?

The fuel one I got for mine sounds good and was pretty cheap but seems to be of good quality. To be honest what sounds good is subjective to what each person likes. Best to try and hear some for yourself.

I like beowulf.

angle grinder works fine, so does a hacksaw. Depends how confident you are with the grinder.

I had taken a look at beowulf. Are there several different models for the SV or just one?

Several, they do round or oval or tri-oval ("warrior"), stainless, Ti, coloured or plain etc etc.

I think the warrior shape ones suit a pointy very well

Hmmm, I shall take a look. One of the other things I would not mind doing it getting a tinted screen but I am not sure what type. I have heard that double bubble are no good but I also do not know of any others :smt086 any recomendations?

I had an MRA double bubble and a fuel oval exhaust on mine. Both were cheap and great. Fuel exhausts sound lovely with no baffles.

I preferred my Fabbri screen over the stock, Powerbronze and MRA screens.

I do like the look of that Powerbronze screen. Then again the whole bike looks rather nice :)
