Well, it's Armed Forces Day 2010 this Saturday, the 26th June. Anyone going to be doing anything to celebrate the work our lads and lasses in HM Forces do?

Personally I'm taking part in a big parade in Godalming (GM members, you're welcome to attend) and then at a party in the evening hosted by a friend of mine whose father is currently on ops.

Even if you don't do anything special, take a moment out to remember those who are willing to do what they do for our society. Don't have to support why they are there, just support the people themselves. :)

Thankyou

I will be showing financial support by pouring a lot of very expensive unleaded into the bike!

enjoy the parade, I was in cadets years ago and it was good fun :)

We get all the old boys from ww2 at work and they sell cards and what not that all go to help for hero's and other force related charities.
Is always a nice day.

Sunday, Plymouth Hoe. An extravaganza of events. Kids will be climbing over shiney stuff, climbing walls, eating ice cream and just generally having a good time. I imagine that I'll bump into one or two people that I know.;)

Never heard of this.

Is it another of those days invented by the greeting card industry like grand parents day etc.

For those in the south, I found out through work that any serving forces personnel and their families can go to Eastbourne speedway for free on 1 July

Had Lorraine Kelly winched into my work from a Sea-king and then take a Fastrib up the Clyde to mark the start of Armed Forces Week.

Would not mind celebrating over the lovely Lorraine. ;)

Tis fairly new Tim, it's in it's third year here...the first year in Plymouth it was advertised as veterans day...veterans day now appears in various diaries.

I might go down to Cardiff Bay, drink beer and look at the big warship.

Except, my drinking pit of choice down there is RIGHT NEXT TO the dock where it's moored, I think. Darn.

The Waterguard eh. Perfect choice. Spent many an hour in there.

Nope, it was a concoction of some of the Forces charities I believe, who then leant on the MoD/Government to do something about it. This is it's second year nationally I believe, last year's was a pretty small affair, hoping to be a bit bigger this time.

Genuine as they come sir :D

They have a similar day here in Spain. This year it took place a couple of weeks ago. Here it really is a big day. Now that I am the proud Dad of a serving Sailor I pay more heed to such things. In doing so I feel the pain of so many British parents who have seen their young lad sign up recently, only to be returned for a funeral service not long later.

Selfishly I am so glad my son elected for the Navy and not for Army. it's not about politics it's about people. No young boy signs up hoping to kill people and no parent expects their son not to have anything other than a long and healthy life. Very sad on occasions really.
