View Full Version : Exhaust Cans (for a change!) - Delkevic?
Morning all,
Anyone fitted a Delkevic stubby 'not for road use' exhaust to there SV650s?
I have just brought a L9 model and I think its time to ditch the dustbin can!
Also, what can sounds the best?

I have got a Delkevic stubby fitted on my K9 Sport, it's the legal one (although the baffle might have fallen out;) ). I think it sounds the nuts, and looks good too (simple but shiny!). For what I paid (£110 delivered) I don't think you can get better!

when you say road legal is there a mark and if so where i have one(don't know what model) on my K3 and can't see anything.
cheers
I also just fitted the road legal 350mm stainless steel stubby today infact, and i took the baffle out and gave it some gas on my drive. It sounds immense. I found it was really worth the money. Mine was £120 delivered. There's really no reason to spend more.
Sounds good, thanks for the replies!
Well i've ordered the 225mm stubby carbon exhaust yesterday for £145 delivered.
I'll update the thread when i know what its like!
That's going to be loud as ****! :notworthy:
Really?!...... Hope so!
Have you heard/seen one then, what are they like?
Kinda thought if i saw the plod I would just knock it up a couple of gears and go easy on the throttle! and if pulled 'sorry officer, it was like it when i brought it!'
just had a look at these myself and they look quality hope the carbon one works out for you alright i would have one but the police in fife would have me every day i think.
Just a small question appart from the obvious colour difference is there any other reason why the titanium ones are 199 and the stainless is 119?
Cheers Hobo
Titanium is expensive, more so than stainless.
I have one of the hexicone cross section stubby exhausts. Sounds excellent, no complaints here.
Yeah the materials are far more expensive and from a manufacturing point of view Titanium is alot harder to work with (takes longer!)
Anyway I fitted the exhaust this evening and went for a little spin down to Poole bike night and............
Holy **** its loud! It scares small children, turns heads of fellow bikers as i ride down the street, under acceleration it sings and the noise when you downshift is ducati like! Not to mention the grumbling and small back firing after hard aceleration when rolling of the throttle its sweet as!
My only gripe is that its not a great fit, mainly the 'P' bracket which fits round the exhaust isnt great, however little bit of adjusting when i have more time it will be fine!, Oh and a serious lack of deburring sharp edges my two middle fingers are properly deeply sliced!:smt013
But all that aside, holy **** its loud and it growls!
However, I passed a few biking coppers and a plod car and none battered an eyelid when i knocked it up a gear and cruised by! So me thinks its not bad!
Will post pics soon!
Mine was deburred to the sort of standard I'm happy with, strange. Glad you're happy with it. I haven't had the baffle out of mine yet, I haven't seen the need to :smt104

Mine doesnt have a Baffle! its the 225mm carbon stubby, (not for road use).
But strangely its stamped up 'BSAU 193 T3' which i beleive it means that it is for road use?
Anyone got any ideas?
Hi Alex,
are u sure that it has these numbers marked on it as iv been looking and if it has
BS AU 193a: 1990/T3
you didnt have the small a in yours tho.
Then it could be used for road as far as i could read. just google it see if you can make any sense of it?
If these are road legal then i will defo have the carbon one with no baffel would be class.
Keep me informed as this is of much interest

Will do Hobo
Not sure about the 'a' i think it may have a capital 'A' but i will check later as im off to scare the local wildlife around the purbecks!
I also e-mailed them as I googled it last night and its just legal mumbo jumbo!
I'd just buy one, they look the nuts and ive driven past 3 sets of coppers with no issues. Do it, you know you want to!
Oh and they do have a bit of a baffle, just, well, its not a very good one! and its not removable
i am really tempted to like but the coppers round here love to pull over cars and bikes to a lesser extent.
i would hate to have to get rid after a couple of weeks.
Who did u e-mail? on the website it said not road legal didnt it?

I used the online contact form, and in the words of delkevic;
"This is an oval silencer & is made from a pre formed composite carbon fibre sleeve & high grade 304 stainless steel. They have no baffle & a 2 3/4 inch (70mm) outlet. These silencers are short open & loud, Not road legal"
But correct me if im wrong but the baffle is the wire mesh tube in the silencer packed with sound absorbing material?
The baffle is like a hollow cylinder with one end chopped off. it slips into your exhaust to dampen the noise of it. it's illegal to ride with it taken out i think, but your can is illegal anyway :P I will be riding mine with it out. sounds alot deeper without it!
Okay cant figure out how to upload so just the one!
Hobo
Finally got the official response from Delkevic;
'The first batch of 225mm oval silencers have been fitted with the incorrect assembly band, these where from our 350mm silencer & where stamped BSAU193/T3, they sold out so quickly that the mistake was not identified until they were all gone, so basically although they are stamped as homologated they are not & are not designated for ‘road’ use.'
So definetly not Road legal, just an unfortunate **** up!
It would be interesting if i got pulled over to see what they say, its stamped up road legal, blatantly too loud for the road But the exhaust is of a sealed construction i.e. no way of removing or installing a Baffle!
Cheers Alex,
I think i will have to get one and see if it comes with the stamp. with being sold out do you think it will still have it or were you just one of the lucky ones. I think if its stamped the police couldnt do anything just plead the old card of its stamped and i didnt know?
Cheers Hobo
I really dont know!, order it and if it comes with the 'unfortunate' stamping then great if not then just order the 350mm stainless one.
I would definetly play the card as I brought it officer and it was stamped!
But really its like i said in previous posts, If your driving through the city centre revving the nuts off it then yeah your going to get pulled, but if your sensible with the throttle and an appropiate higher gear it doesnt sound that loud (still draws attention though!) and you would just get frowned on!
Its up to you, just order some ear plugs if you do get one!
Hi Alex,
Ordered the exhaust and unfortunatly it has come with the terrible mistake of stamping the exhaust with a BSAU stamp. I am GUTTED:rolleyes: and will have to fit it to the bike as soon as possible. Tomorrow i think as im night shift this week. Stamped up and ready to go. CLASS.
:smt003
Cheers for the help Hobo.
Well that is most unfortunate news, its such a shame that companies can make such blatant errors, Now what are the rozzers going to do! \\:D/
Let me know how it goes when you fit it as mine isnt the best of fits (looks good, im just a bit finicky)
but when youv'e fitted it and had a run on it let me know what you think of it!
Will do mate. was going to fit it today but after my night shift im not sure if i have the energy. will let you know when i have fitted it then i heard that you are better to leave it 24 hrs for the paste to set for best results before using. its tiny compaired to the rocket launcher standard one. will look the business i think.

Hi guys,
Sorry to deviate away from OP. I need a new exhaust for a curvy and I am considering getting a Delkevic - they seem cheap and cheerful.
Reading some past stories on here, it appears previously the "one model fits all" was problematic on the curvies.
Now looking at the website, I see they are now split up into curvy and pointy. Does that mean the original issue is fixed and the '99-'02 will fit a curvy easily? All I am after is a real cheap exhaust that works and is road legal to replace mine :(.
Looking at their picture here (http://www.delkevic.co.uk/images/product_variants/super/zzz_450mm_ss_silencer_and_link7.jpg) and here (http://www.delkevic.co.uk/?section=shop&product_category=silencers_hl3s5&product=450mm_stainless_steel_oval_silencers&start=0&search_term=&order_by=) (selecting SV650 '99-'02 from the drop down), aside from the large, main clamp that fits around the silencer itself, there is only one clamp for the link pipes. Do you not need a clamp at each end of the link pipe: one securing the silencer to the link pipe and; one fitting the link pipe to the main exhaust pipe itself?
Thanks all
K.
I see what you mean, the phot does show 1 clamp!
Dont worry about it, the phots are for illustration purposes only! you will get 2 clamps and if not just get in touch with delkevic they are top quality guys, very helpful!
Hobo, have you fitted the silencer yet?
Silencer is not really approapriate as u will know alex
Fitted the exhaust today alex. Sounds Quality seen one single mum moving her kid to the inside of the path when i was comming along the street. and as you said i seen absolutely no wildlife as it all left when i got close. Brilliant.
Only one thing is that the hanger seems slack on the exhaust? i dont know if they are all like this?
I left 60mm from the weld as i think it looks more central for the hanger.
Back to the main point though i am extremely happy with the db's:rolleyes: and looks cracking too.
Cheers Hobo.:smt003

You see my post a couple above yours, with my concerns in it before I make a purchase? :D
as i said above only thing i dont like and will ask is the hanger. i have a naked 99 version and was fitted in 40 mins sounds class tho
Hobo
Id of thought you'd have posted pics by now;)
I was wrong the day after i fitted the exhaust i checked the hanger and i had it on wrong stupidly i didnt put both ends together and thats why it was loose.

Hi guys,
I've got a stainless delkevic fitted to my K8, was fitted when I bought it so I don't know whether has a baffle or not. It is loud and raspy, sounds great.
how can i check?

if its the same as mine there is a screw at the end of the pipe holding a baffle in. if there is no screw holding something in place there is no baffle. if you need pics let me know i will try and get some.
Apologies for the bump.
How are those of you who bought Delkevic cans finding them?
Very nice can. Sound lovely.
No need to spend anymore money than these cost IMO

I was considering a Delkevic, one fo the 225mm carbon stubbies. I emailed Delkevic and they said they're not road legal and have no baffle, but that they're not stamped "not for road use" anywhere. How much of a problem would these be when it comes to an MOT?
I doubt you'd pass. Mine's pretty loud without a baffle in as it is, let alone half the size!
I don't think you'd enjoy riding it either. It would really annoy me being that loud after a while.
So on curvey cut it 60 mm from the welde. No measurements in the instructions
