What are the symptoms of a loose clutch cable.
Would the bike stall when coming up to a stop?

Is there lots of slack at the lever? Does the lever get close to the 'bar before doing anything? If no then the cable isn't slack. Does the clutch drag?

I noticed that the screw on the lever was very loose and turning freely, which seem to co-incide the bike starting to stall as I was coming up to junctions in second gear. I haven't had chance to ride the bike since tightening it up yesterday.

don't become a cable fiddler, the clutch adjustment for the SV is a locknut & screw under the sprocket cover , adjust it properly first, then adjust the cable and leave it alone
