the carbs might just need balancing if it's running a bit poor. If that's the case, give me a wee shout. Failing that, and they do need cleaning up etc, see the details in my signature.

welcome welcome!!

I can highly recommend Independant Photo up there for any tinkering the bike needs, balanced the carbs in my SV the other week and it's running like a dream! Give that a go before "major surgery"!

let's sort something out and give them a check before pulling anything apart. You can't be that far from me in Cumbernauld at a guess.

I had fun like that with the SV... with mine there was a small rubber bung that had come out of the front carb and it was sucking air at low revs so there wasn't enough fuel in the mixture. Bung back in taa daa!!!

Let IP have a look!!!

Hello. Yep, as said above - quick 10 minute balance check before going down the carbs off route. Might save you a whack, nothing to lose anyway as most carbed bikes go off balance every now and then.

Hello. Yep, as said above - quick 10 minute balance check preceeded and followed by 30 mins of strip down / rebuild for access:smt104

let's sort something out and give them a check before pulling anything apart. You can't be that far from me in Cumbernauld at a guess. Can use my garage tools etc for the work if its easier.

managed to get it to idle which is a start a suppose lol 1ns a get it looked at i think a good service wouldnt go a miss Dont know if the glasgow garages do it but saltire in edinburgh do a free, bike health check, basically a good look over with a list of what needs done.

how old is the bike, pointy (03->) or curvey (<-03) how many miles when was the last service? how long has it been sitting may be advisable to drain fuel and clean out tank.

realistically what does it need. oil and filter (& crush washer)
Spark plugs
air filter
check brakes, lube & possibly pads
brake and coolant level
check battery / reg/rec
check chain / sprocket
fuel filter
fork seals check
wheel bearing check
check tyres (esepcially if its been parked up for a while)

i'll give you an update re-philpys bike- he brought it over and left it with me for a few days, was idling really bad refusing to start sometimes, every nut and bolt seemed to be welded together, choke plungers also welded into carbs, usual suzuki cheese screws which melted on seeing screw driver, carbs were in very bad condition, full of jellied rusty gunk,so different set of carbs, front and rear coil, nuts and bolts/clamps replaced, and new choke cable etc, carbs balanced - bike seems to be running better and smoother but still hunting occasionally a bit on idle, occasional fart out the exhaust.Checked for air leaks/ loose connections but nothing found. Engine needs oil and filter change and needs the valve clearances done( no record of ever being done and nearly at 32000) and a full service(leaking fork seal also).
Cam chain is really loud and front tensioner could do with being replaced too.
Ive spoken to philpy re the condition of his bike and what he'd be looking to spend to get it back in a semi decent condition and he's looking at a good few quid-there's a few other bits and bobs to be done to get it looking decent- i honestly think that his bikes at the stage where its gonna cost him more to get it back to decent condition and keep it there than the bikes worth.
He's gonna get shot of it and is heading towards a pointy.

Bike is now sold been told bike was running on 1 cylinder as husky said the bike was gettin to the stage were it would have cost me a bit of money to upkeep. Now on the look out for a pointy in the next few weeks.

good mate here's hoping you get another soon:)- think the problems more than just firing on one though as coils were swapped etc but never mind you'll soon be back on the road-even if its on a pointy;)
