curvy vs pointy

Hi all, just got my first SV650s last Fri 99 model, it's a project bike for me but, as I said I'm new to the SV club, so, curvy is carby, is 99 to 03 yes??? pointy is injection 03 onwards???
Are there major differences between the two for frame and suspension ? will a pointy rear plastics and tail light fit a carby model??? and, whats the best value for money suspension upgrade? I'vfe been thinking Hyperpro or Ohlins progressive springs and a heavier weight oil and a shock off a Gixer but which model Gixer ???

curvy is carby yes, but 99-02 not 03. 03 was first injected one.

frames are very different.

back end does not directly swap as far as I know. you would need to do some surgery to get it to swap.

suspension is same crap as standard. different linkage in rear for pointy. 'softer' and more progressive.

best VFM suspension upgrade is front springs and oil. I would go linear, not progressive.

Gixer shock is good. depending how much you weigh.

Curvy is good, front end swap for K-Tech progressive springs or something similar, gives a much better ride for next to nothing (except time spent fiddling).
As for the back end, I never did find the need for anything else, although if I had my time again maybe sort a way to fix a cushion to the seat which is not too comfortable on long rides.
Curvy is best, leave the bodywork well alone. Sort the forks, ride it like you stole it.:smt040

Forks are too short for progressive springs , just fit linear .

Good choice going for a curvey.
I have progressive fork springs, they firm the front up very well, swap the rear shock & it makes it a different bike all together :)

Thanks Shelly, Mr C and Razor. I have a ZX10R 54 reg, under 10k on the clock vgc if you know anyone who wants one. Decided to sell it when two mates, whom I consider to be slightly unhinged, commented on which warp factor I usually had the throttle set on so, I bought an ex Thundersports UK 600 Hornet for track days and the SV650s for the road. I wanted a naked model really but this came up at the right price. Mr C what make and where did you pick up the bikini fairing on your bike ???

His Bikini fairing is from a Buell and you won`t believe the hassle he had sourcing the parts for it .
