View Full Version : About to buy and sv 650 first big bike
Hi as above i am going to look at a sv650 sk7 tomorrow with 10000 miles on the clock. This will be my first big bike i currently ride a r125 and a ktm 250 sxf (offroad). So is there anything that i should watch out for when i have a look at the bike/ reliability issues. Also i am going to have it restricted to 33bhp, is that just a case of a new ecu from a dealer. Thanks alot also how much do you think it is worth. Thanks Brad.
I can only answer one question, and that is about the ECU.
You can get a 33bhp ECU from ebay or often on here in the "For Sale" sections. Normally about £50. Dealers charge a lot for the ECUs (hundreds) - and they are dead easy to fit, 5 mins and only takes a couple of allenkeys to get to it.

Can't really say what it's worth without more detail ... Condition, fsh, tax, mot if it's due one.
Mainly condition though. Drops, general maint etc.
From experience of buying an SV that turned out to be fairly neglected, I have found the only reliability issues on mine to be electrical issues, not really something you can check that easily but if the bike looks in good nick, well maintained and with reasonable mileage on it, then you may not get the same problems.
Price for an SK7 with 10k would be around 2.5k I would guess, that's based on a search on bike trader for a 3 y/o bike, dealer price was around 2.5k with around 8k miles
Ok cheers for the info the bike is in mint condition, full fairing in black, registered may 08, taxed till october and completely standard. Thanks.

Any damage, service history, how many owners and condition of tyres brakes chain and when does it next need a service?Given that it is now three years old these factors affect value hugely.

Assuming it really is mint I'd say 2k-2.4
full service history next service is at 12000 miles tyres, chain and sprockets are in very good condition but am not to sure on the brakes also how many spare keys should it have ow and its had 2 owners.

I believe 2 keys total is the norm!
Ok cheers for that it has both keys. Do you think it is worth only between 2-2.4k

Private sale or dealer?
Id say a bit over 2.5----maybe 2.8 at this time of year.
Its a private sale and is up for £2700 also is the warranty 3 years long

Where you based?
Hi im based in leicester.
A quick look at MCN (http://www.motorcyclenews.com/MCN/bikes-for-sale/) bikes for sale suggests dealer price would be £3k-3.5 and private probably around £500 lower, so the 2.7 asking price seems about right. Just depends how much you want to buy and how much they want to sell.
Remember a set of tyres will be £200, chain+sprockets £100, battery £50, so factor them in if they are needed soon.

do yourself a favour and chat with specialone. I just bought my first bike and its a k8 in charcoal grey(best colour imo) with 4500miles on the closk and with one owner from new. it came witha scottoiler and brand new tyre. i paid 3125 with 6 months tax. i think 2.5k is fair for the bike with 10k miles but chat to special one!!!!
