View Full Version : Shoei Helmets
Been trying on some new helmets and even though they don't come with a flip down visor and I hate the double D strap annoyingly Shoei helmets seem to fit me way better than any others.
Tried on a XR1100 in the shop and it was great but a bit expensive. Seen the XR1000 for £100 cheaper online. Anyone know what the difference is?
Cheers
I have done a review between the two on here somewhere. In summary...
The visor now has a self sealing mechanism to gaurantee a 100% seal. My XR1000 was considerably noiser than my XR1100. This was mainly due to the fact that the visor never sealed right.
The Visor on the XR1100 is considerably bigger than the XR1000, and as such can now accept the larger pinlock insert too (you get one free with the helmet). One of my big complaints with the XR1000 was the poor vision out of the small visor, with the pinlock insert it became even worse and when you were down behind your screen the line of the pinlock was right in your eye line.
The ventilation is vastly increased on the XR1100 over the XR1000. Note I say increase/ not improved. The main vents offer a lot more air but the vent infront of your mouth let in to much air in my opinion, much over 30mph and it need to be shut as the air aggrevates my eye, great for demisting though.
Alledgedly the shape has been significanlty redesigned, I am not sure how you really notice this difference but the smoothing in of the rear spolier bit has reduced noise. The XR1000 I found LOUD, the XR1100 is much quiter in comparison.
Thanks mate, did a search but found so much stuff on Shoeis it was hard to find what I was after.
Would you say the XR1100 is worth the extra money then?

It depends on what price you can get each for really.
I have seen plain black XR1100 for £240 and XR1000 for £150 but you will struggle to find a UK XR1000 nowdays in an actual shop. I have heard that a lot of cheap XR1000 floating around are old imports and don't have the Gold standard sticker on etc meaning they should not be used on track etc.
I paid full wack for my XR1100 which was £390, in my opinion it was worth it for the upgrade and the XR1000 niggles were annoying.
Can you remember where you saw it for £240. Prices I have seen online are £270 plain or £340 with a pattern

After a year of use my XR1000 visor pivot plate screws had loosened. Readjusting the position of it allowed the visor to seal properly again.
I am well impressed with quality and fit of my XR1000 and would buy another or the replacement for it if it fits same.
