After my insurance company had written my bike off over the phone, it now transpires they want to repair it.
Apparently it will cost them £2000. The list price of the bike is £3450.
SO i'm obviously really happy that my beloved SV will be ressurected.
Feels a bit strange though. Bad omen kind of feeling. Thoughts?
When it's all sparkly again I might consider a part-ex for something. Bit bothered about its value following an accident and all that.
Apparently they are replacing the front forks, all fairings, the exhausts and other random bits that have broken off.
So surely it's gonna be just like it was? I can't see them repairing it if there is ANY chance of frame damage, knowing if something did happen to me after I would be suing them for everything they are worth...:???:

They're not getting the bits off here are they?

The problem is now the bike will have the accident showing on a hpi check, so that will de-value the bike, something insurance companies never compensate you for.
If you have a non fault accident, i dont think it should cost you a single penny, inc your vehicle being de-valued.
When somebody banged my van while it was stationary, i have to do all the chasing around, picking up hire vehicle, dropping that off again and picking my van up after repair, that cost me time from work (self employed) and fuel.
I just think its wrong.
Rant over...

i would make it clear you will only accept the bike being fixed by a offical suzuki dealer and something tells me it may go over the 2 grand mark
If the bike is repairable according to the insurer, it should not be entered on MIAFTA (Hpi to you).
If their report says it's repairable, then thats what it is. (If you want to pm me in a few weeks to see if it was entered I might be able to find 5 mins to do a quick search for you.)

HPI will not tell you if a bike has had an accident unless it's been written off by an Insurer
If they're repairing it then they shouldn't have any category marker on it's history and thus will not show up on an HPI check

He's absolutely right.
My last SV, a 650S K5 was involved in an accident and was borderline write off. I negotiated with the insurance assessor and we agreed that they'd pay for parts and repairs to parts and I'll give my own labour. That saved the bike from being written off and after I'd been paid out the work was done properly by myself (for less than half what they paid me out :-) ).
I checked its status on HPI and it came out clear of anything, the accident wasn't recorded on there. I sold that bike to Rai86 and she knew about its history before she set off from her home a long way from mine to view it. She brought a bike shop owner friend with her and he declared it fine after looking it over thoroughly and taking it for a spin.

+1 For what lozzo said.
It seems to be a similar situation to Lozzo's and seems borderline. The frame must be fine if they've declared that they intend to repair it.

Aha this is excellent news.
Well in that case I won't contest anything. Just let them get on with it and make the bike look nice again.
Apparently they are replacing at least one of the laser cans because of a scuff on it. Either that or they will polish it out.
The insurance inspector guy said the book price for the bike is £3450. Does that seem about right do you think? (I want a good idea of how much I should be asking for it when I come to sell).
K8 20000 miles, super loud dual lasers baffles included, LED indies, all standard bits etc. Very well looked after w all service stamps etc.
This isn't a for sale post i'm just interested to know your thoughts

Book price looks optimistic to me
