So...bought a bike on ebay on Thursday for me as although I love the babyblade, it is just a bit too small and is a great toy, but not good for long day rides.

So.....here's my new baby. Absolutely incredible condition, brand spanking new Piralli Diablos, new battery, 12 months tax and MOT, it came with the standard can and screen, chain, every MOT cert. and dealer service stamp etc. etc.

Apart from a few teeny little marks that you really have to look hard for, it is in pretty much showroom condition.

WOW as well. Went up to Manchester on the back of the Blackbird with Dan yesterday, picked it up at 3.45 and had a 10 mile trip to go see some friends, then a 15 mile trip to the mates house we stayed at. Given the fact that I can very barely get my tip toes on the floor at the same time, it was quite nerve wracking, but only when stopping. Riding in town it was surprisingly smooth and easy to handle on even the tightest bends. Feel more comfortable turning this is tight circles than I do the babyblade :-)

Today, we came home from Manchester via Welshpool, Hereford, Monmouth and Chepstow and it was an awesome ride.

It's crazyily powerful compared to the Babyblade. I spun the rear wheel and had a mini wobble because I short shifted up to 2nd for a fairly large roundabout on the Bristol ring road, but should have known better and gone up to third and it was simply a case of too much power going to the rear for the wet road. It needs to be in third for roundabout fun, whereas the babyblade can be thrashed round in 2nd.

It's just incredible. It's going to do my riding the world of good because has power that needs to be respected, so it's actually calming my riding down. Making me take a step back if ya know what I mean.

Anyway...there ya go....very comfortable considering the mileage today.

I LOVE IT :smt040

Exactly the lesson I had to learn when I got my GSXR and dont let it lull you into a false sense of security, its very easy to go much faster than you are used to going.

Looks tidy though, you are going to enjoy that once you have gelled with it.

Agree...feels amazing to handle. Really not much different to the babyblade in terms of flickability at roundabouts and in the twisties/overtakes. Feels much more secure at realy slow speed manouvres as well, I think just because there's a little more power pulling it upright and I'm further from the floor, so feel a bit further away from landing on it if that makes sense.

Really do need to get it lowered though!

It's quite a beast so I can see why it might look like a 9 at first glance and yes, deffo the best colour scheme, I can't actually find any pics of other kwaks with this colour scheme???

Well, I paid £2k for it on buy it now and I have no doubt it would have gone for a fair bit more. Had an email from the seller this morning to say that on Saturday evening and Sunday morning, he had emails from people that had been watching it. They were all offering more money, but sadly for them.....I'd already ridden it away :-)

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!

What no Honda???? ;)

I know....shocker eh! ;-)

Very nice.

Well, 250 miles so far...that will be about 400 by the end of today and I'll be out on it most days between now and the AR doing 100+ miles each time. It's how I got so comfy on the babyblade so quickly and I already feel 80% there on this one as some of the roads on the way from Welshpool to Hereford to Monmouth and Chepstow yesterday were both fast and smooth and sometimes very tight and technical and wet in parts, so a good challenge to get the feel of the bike. Better I think than riding just in the dry as I got to feel the feedback in the wet and I'm not overly impressed. They are okish, but the Vipers on the babyblade were actually better in the wet.

Great bike. Best colour. Sound fantastic. Check out the Resonator boxes inside the fairing....just for making it sound better.

Yep, the sound is just incredible. I have a little video clip, I might post it up later :-)

Funnily enough, we are going to give them a clean tonight. It's been stood for a while and there's a little squeak from the fronts. They work though, bl00dy hell do they work. They are very very good brakes.

yorkie_chris
05-07-10, 09:57 AM
Get the pistons right out and rubber grease behind them, if corrosion has got any hold in there then they'll never be right.

Don't worry about the squeaking so long as they're releasing properly.

gruntygiggles
05-07-10, 09:58 AM
Oh....some idiot had fitted a rear hugger to it. It's rubbing a teeny bit, only hear it when you walk the bike, but we wanted to take it off for the trip home. Back to the drawing baord now though as the idiot has tightened the bolts holding it on with a power tool I think. They are seriously NOT budging.

Yep, releasing fin. They are actually pretty new and have done very few miles and been kept garaged. So I think they'll be ok. They certainly are functioning properly. Releasing as they should and braking is nice and smooth, can't feel any kind of feedback through my fingers.

Thanks for the tips...will tell Dan. He'll be well pleased when he hears what a bargain we got!

Bolts more likely to be seized in place than overtightened, IIRC they are just a couple of M6s, if you butcher those they'd just snap.

Is the hugger not stuck down with some sort of adhesive on the right hand side of the swingarm? I don't know if they came with huggers but mine has a carbon one and so has the Squid.

The sound of good brakes on these has been described as bacon sizzling. I've sat in my flat before three floors up and heard a familiar sound to look outside and see one stopping at the lights.

I took mine to the Alps and it was nearly the perfect bike for such a trip. Enjoy! (I can't wait to see it at the AR although I too will be jealous).

Nice , great bikes , have much fun and watch that power , tis sneaky .

gruntygiggles
05-07-10, 11:55 PM
Tis very sneaky of Badgerous one. I shan't disclose the speed I did this evening. Lets just say I was making an overtake a very big empty straight road as there was one car between me and Squirrel.....I was in 4th, opened the throttle a decent amount and when I had gone past the car, got up behind Squirrel (about 50yards) and started to throttle off...a glance down at the speedo almost gave me a heart attack and a few people on here know what I've done on the CBR......so yes.....will be paying MUCH more attention to the speedo and not just the sound/feel of the bike as it's incredibly deceptive!

Hadd a great ride home though. Starting to feel really comfortable on it now, mainly due t the roads being dry today :-)

Off to Kwak tomorrow to discuss lowering it. I really can't get it off the stand sometimes due to a teeny tiny slope and sometimes, when I can, if there is a slight camber to the right, I then have difficulty getting my right toes touching the floor wich makes kicking the sidestand up and putting it in 1st VERY interesting...and funny if you're watching me! :-)

They are already chewed up, tried an impact driver but made it worse so left it. It's not a 'problem' but it makes an AWFUL sound when you move the bike, sounds like something is grinding but it's just the hugger. The fella we got it from was saying that it's because the tyre is bigger, but the way he was saying it sounded like he meant that it was because the new tyre obviously has more trear on than the old worn tyre.... ?!?! Turns out after reading the manual that he did actually mean that it's got a wider section on it, the manual with the bike says it's a 170 section, but it's got a 180 section on it.

Sweet. Going to have to see it on a ride sometime.

Where were you last night then?? EH!!! :smt040

Quite possibly, on the right hand side there is a bolt holding it to the swingarm but that is the only point on that side where attached so wouldn't surprise me if it were stuck with somethin also

I've had a quick look on t'interweb and found -25mm and -40mm lowering dog bones for about £20, so want to get Grunty to try it with a standard seat on to see if it helpos at all. Thinking of lowering by a mixture of -25mm dogs and a seat, so that the bike itself doesn't need to be lowered too much

Nice steed, green too :smt040

Dan, if you are going down the lowering route keep an eye on the side stand. Vix had her Z1000 lowered by 40mm i think (might be worth asking Alex) and found that the bike was too upright on the side stand, making it unstable.
The next step was to take 20mm out of the side stand, drill it, pin it and weld it. If you need any help then give us a shout.
I had the opposite on my Z, went up 35mm and now it leans too far :smt104

Thought about that, that's why I think it would be better to lower by as little as poccible and make the rest up at the seat.. Actually, I do have a question for you...

Or is it already on it's lowest setting already?

Yep....and what can be adjusted already has. I'm getting -25mm dog bones and a standard seat that I might get modified. I have found a way to take it out on my own for now. Two bits of wood spaced apart on the driveway means I can ride up out of the garage onto the driveway, park it between the blocks of wood, lock the house up and then I have the left block of wood to help me get it off the sidestand and the right block of wood so I can get my foot down to kick the sidestand up and put it in gear...lol. I'm fine on the flat and I'm fine at junctions, traffic lights etc...it's just when I have to park it on not flat surfaces...lol!

Cool, if you do resort to playing with the linkage, for fooks sake ensure the shock has full and safe travel unlike half of the spacks on here.

Yeah, Dan is very unwilling to mess with what works. Someone has already dropped the forks 5mm.....not sure if I should leave them as I'll be potentially lowering the bike or put them back to standard. It handles beautifully at the moment, so I'd rather cope with it being a little tall and not sacrifice handling.

I do need it lowered a little though, so lets see what difference the seat makes :-)
