View Full Version : K4 SV650s Height Question.
Hi All,
I recently purchased a k4 sv650s and I would just like some information on bike height. I wouldn't classify myself as being a small person - about 5'10 I would think.
While sitting on the SV I am on my tippy toes (prob the best way to say it) so it seems that it is higher than standard. I am just wondering if there are any benefits to leaving the bike at this height or should I look into lowering it back down slightly? For instance, is handling improved with having the bike higher or am I not gaining any advantage and would be better to lower the bike so that I have better ability to keep feet on the ground when stationary, walk the bike backwards, etc, etc
As this is my first bike and as I'm new to the whole biking scene - I'm just looking for the best advice from fellow experienced bikers as to the best way to have the bike setup so my learning curve would be improved.
Again - as mentioned I'm new to all this so if pictures would assist in identifying anything or for extra clarification, let me know and I will organize getting some pics up later
*** Just noticed my spelling error on the title - should have been "height" - wooooops - back to school I go....
Cheers

Some pics of the suspension linkage would help us tell you if it has been raised.
Extra ride height does help the handling, but so long as the front has been uprated.

Howdy Chris - thanks for the quick response.
I will work on getting some pics later so for uploading...
Will take some pics around the rear shock and linkages - not sure if anything has been uprated or anything but you may be able to tell from images!

I sat on a Curvy yesterday (I think there is 5mm difference between the pointy/curvy) and I was on tippy toes.
But I'm 5'4.
So sounds like yours has been raised, unless you have a really really short inside leg!
I take between 32-34 leg in jeans - depends on manufacturer though as they vary. Usually a 32".
Will take some pics after work and upload...
Need to clean the bike a little first :-)

Sounds like someone fitted a jackup kit (dog bones perhaps) or shock.
Not sure but does seem quite high - hopefully with pics - you more experienced folks will be able to tell :-)

I would avoid riding it untill you have cleared this up. If something has been modified, I'm sure it wouldn't go down well with your insurance company.
Have lesson tomorrow eve on it.......
Howdy,
Here's some over-exposed shots - forgot to change the camera settings - taught it was on 'Auto' for some strange reason and only spotted it after I had the bike back off the Abba stand and was back inside. Too lazy to retake them :-)
It does look like it has been risen as the rear wheel is just about off the ground with the new abba stand.

So next thing to do is to see what I need to get to lower her if it is the best thing to do from looking at the pics and prob look at upgrading the shock while I'm at it and maybe the front springs.

I couldnt help with your problem.... but that's a rather tasty bike!!
My fav exhaust. White wheels look ace. If it were the black frame I think it would be the perfect SV. Well done chap!

You ride a bike and dont know about crossgates
Its a service station, cafe just before ryaeder in wales, kinda last stop before elan valley.
If you havent been, get yourself over there pronto, its very good.
I can understand you not wanting to ride with a curvy, people will stare :smt040
Cant make bassetts, im not keen tbh, too many gits about, prefer the waterman.

I might just have too. I finish work in 3 weeks for a whole 2 and a half months, and am planning on getting some miles under my belt!
I agree, prefer the Waterman. But it's only like a 5 minute ride, and it's 'date' night on a Weds (Grumble's naughty words under his breath).

Its not the cafe, albeit everybody stops there, but the A483 right by there is one of my fav roads, its fantastic.
Then there's elan valley which is very scenic and a good ride.
Get over there with your biker buddies, follow a44 to it, you'll love it.

Will do! Let me know if you're planning a trip down yourself, if you'd be happy to accomodate a tag along, that would be great!

Off topic!
Those dogbones are an aftermarket jack up kit to raise the rear end. so the bike will steer quicker than standard.
There will also be more weight on the front, not advisable with stock springs.

Thanks for that Chris,
Am I best to leave as is and upgrade the shock & front springs to keep the agility of the height or looking at the height with me sitting on it, would I be best to lower it back down so that I can keep both feet firmly on the ground and use the abba stand with more clearance?

Upgrade the shock and front springs is a no brainer :)
Previous owner might well have done them (the springs) himself, did he mention it? I would try and contact them to check.
How much you weigh is a factor in what to change.

Cool - cheers
He never mentioned anything about upgrading the springs or shocks, he bought the bike as is also.
So if it is worth leaving the height as is and upgrading the springs and shock that is what I shall do. Will start shopping in a few weeks when back from holidays.
I fluctuate in weight between 180 - 190lbs (depends on my eating habits - I do enjoy take aways some weeks :-) )
So if that is the goal - I will need to identify the best shopping list and required work to set up the bike and start putting funds away after the hols.

Ok - just back from holidays and it's time to start looking for bigger gsxr mirrors with integrated indicators as I cannot see anything in those little mirrors and for standard dog-bones :-)
Just checked out mirrors for the craic from the UK - £175 for k8 mirrors and £80 for k4 mirrors to grab the mounts from for fitting them to the k4 sv650s.
So needless to say, I will be looking for second hand ones :-)
Hi All,
Sorry to bring back up the old thread. I'm thinking of getting the bike sprayed due to all the chip marks in the paint and that crack on the left hand side fairing.
Does anybody know where I can get new stickers to replace the ones that are on it?
The Suzuki on the front and sides, the S on the tank and the "R SVS" stickers.
Cheers :thumbsup2:
