Hi my name is Brad and i have just bought an sv650s k7 on 09 plates off a forum member (specialone a very nice chap). I have got my test on Wednesday and hopefully a restrictor kit by then as well. The bike has done 4000miles so was wondering is the service due as i emailed my local dealer (redcar) and they told me it wasnt until 7500miles.
Thanks Brad.

It depends when it was last serviced. It should have been done at 600 miles then again at about 4000 miles or 12 months whichever comes first. What does it say in the service book re last service?

according to haynes, the intervals are 600, 4000 and 7500

A 4k service should be around £80 as it'll be a oil change and adjustments

If a Suzuki dealership reckons it doesnt need a service at 4000 miles I would take it somewhere else for any work. How long since the last service in months? If its more than a year the warranty is voided anyway so take it to a good independant and get it done properly,or do it yourself and know its been done properly.

As the mileage hadnt quite got to 4k and i was selling the bike i didnt get the service done, but i wasnt sure when it was due anyway, someone told it was 4k and i had heard 4.5k off someone else.
It had its 600 mile service bang on the mileage, so there wont be any issues.
Not a lots gonna happen in 3000 miles anyway, its just extra money for the dealers, im sure they could increase that to 6000 miles and it would be perfectly ok.

Good luck on the test Brad, it was good to meet you and your dad and i hope you enjoy the sv as much as i did.
How did your dad find it riding it home?

i was told by an ex-dealer that if the 4.5k service isnt carried out then the warranty is invalid so personally i would get it done

I will be geting mine done at 4000 and I am sure the manual states 4000.
I got mine from Redcar, they normally know what they are on about they got a Suzuki dealer award at the end of 08.

My 600 mile service was Oct 08 and have only 2900 on the clock as it is a summer bike.

Yep just checked in the owners manual 4000 miles or 12 months, then its 7500 after that, basically every 3500. May be they misunderstood the 2nd service bit as 600 miles is not a true service!

I think there's the problem. The 600 mile 'service' is not considered a service by dealers, but has some other spurious name like a 'safety check'. They probably thought you meant it needed the 7500 mile service, when in fact you want the 4000 mile service. ;) Ring them back and ask for a price for a '4000 mile service'.
