dont do dat
check battery voltage with bike off, bike on, bike running idle, bike running fast idle, bike running fast idle with high beam on
check resistances between all three pairs of alternator wires (engine off)
test voltages of three pares of alternator wires (engine on)
list them all

i did this and really cant interpret the readings number wise
its an analog reader and i dont really know **** about electrics
the readings are the same on all three yellow wires (1-2)( 1-3)( 2-3)looks to be over 70 as i have read
the volts is where i get confused on the numbers
how exactly do i set the multimeter and which row of numbers is my reading?
i think it is the row that goes 0-10-20-30-40-50(than you multiply by 10)is this correct?
where do i set it,
on the acv setting for the alternator reading
and on the dcv for the battery reading
but what numbers do i set it in to do each test?
and what does the dial on the side do?
sorry i really am a dumbass.
thanks

when you test the alternator wires (yellow) then the meter should be set to AC, the rest of the bike system is DC, 70v is the right output value for the alternator
for the bike everything will be around 12v, so usualy you will have a 500/100/50/20 DC etc setting, you will see on a analogue meter there are several scales, each one match up at the max limit to the value you selected, somtimes there are diffrent scales for AC and DC, it should all be marked up
the dial on the side is a zero setting, i cant exactly remember how to set it correctly for battery testing, someone will say how, usualy for battery testing as long as it says 0 at the start it should be ok

ok great
readings with meter set to 50
bike off 12
key on 12
idle 13
@3000 14.5
@5000 hi beam on 14.5
everything seems normal
maybe i had a bad connection?
thanks for the help
thoes are all good figures
i would check for corrosion in connections, make sure the terminals on the battery are properly bolted down.
are you still having a cranking over problem? check the connector on the starter and the main relay terminals
its possable that the starter needs servicing if all else fails
Im not sure exactly but im sure ive been told once that the SV will not run without the reg rec unless a special kit is install, not sure though.
