Hey guys

I'm trying, desperately to sell my bike, but having successfully sold it on ebay, I got messed around by the buyer who after arranging a time to pick it up, never appeared and stopped replying to all messages/emails etc. And because ebay now protects all buyers, he has got away with it.

Now this has put me in a really awful position because i was selling my bike with a months MOT and now it only has about 2 and a half weeks left, and I cant get a new MOT because the bike is SORN'd so has no insurance and no tax.

The bike is already hard to sell because I still have the restrictors in and cant afford to have them taken out, and it will be even harder to sell now if it doesnt have an MOT.

Does anyone have a bike trailer or a van I could borrow or even 3rd party insurance and could help me out with getting it to a garage to get a new MOT? I'd of course pay costs and all that stuff, I just cant even ride it myself because all of my bike gear (helmets, leathers, gloves, boots etc, is up in Sheffield as as I was selling it I didnt think I'd have any need to bring it down for the holidays), and it would cost me about £60 in petrol or £60 in train fare just to go get it.

If anyone could help me, that would be fantastic. Thank so much

Sorry to hear your predicament Gracie - I am unable to offer any assistance though. :( Have you tried ringing a local bike MOT place - some do a collection/return service?

Driving to an MOT test when a SORN is in place
You can drive your vehicle to and from a pre-arranged test at an MOT test station provided you have adequate insurance cover in place for that vehicle.

What about getting insurance and cancelling within 14 days ?You should get your premium back

I guess you missed that bit then pookie...?

As per Pookie above AND you could be in for a pain here as far as riding the bike is concerned.

As far as I know most (I'm not definatly saying ALL) insurance policies that cover you to ride/drive another vehicle on a third party cover state that the vehicle being ridden/driven has to have some sort of insurance on it already.

E.g. Squirrel Hunter is riding my BlackBird around, but his insurance only allow this cover because I have my own policy already on the bike.

You could book it in for the MOT and then get it insured for the day you need it ridden to the test station.

That is the usual thought but it is very much underwriter specific (so my sister who works at Aviva told me!)

Yes I think it may be easier to get someone to ride it to the centre for you once insurance has been bought.. Hope you get it sorted

Did someone say they needed a bike trailer? I know someone not more than ooh about 10 miles from your destination who has such a thing. ;)

another alternative is to get your stuff sent down via courier..check out www.parcelmonkey.com . Get a big box and chuck your stuff in..I think the limit is 20 - 30kg. Its around 10 quid. I have used them a bit and they use city link and normally next day delivery even on 48 hr stuff. There are other couriers and possibly cheaper but may save your 60 quid spend.

i dont have the money to pay anything up front, and they usually have admin costs etc, dont give back 10% which would probably be quite a lot so it would be cheaper to see if an MOT place would collect and deliver

i'm not going to buy insurance - thats why i'm selling the bike in the first place! I cant afford it anymore. and I'm too young to buy temporary insurance, as i've tried that before, i hate being 22 sometimes!

I need to borrow a trailer off someone, not for someone to take it for me (although they can if they want:)) I'd only need t borrow it for about 6 hours - just enough for me to get home, put the bike on it, get my dad to drive it to have the MOT done, then drive it home and I'd bring it straight back

Well if you want to borrow the trailer you can. Just let me know when you want it. I have to sort out the lighting board but can do that tonight if you need it pronto. (I had a bit of an issue with it losing one of the mounting screws and consequently hitting the road a few hundred times on the motorway before I was informed by a passing motorist.)

so your closer to bury st eds?

Orwell motorcycles do an MOT collection service IIRC, I know of another smaller bike shop which could probably help too.. I trust the bike is actually with you?
