superb!, the islay ones, especially the peaty/smoky ones are my favorite, i have in the cupboard a bottle of glen grant distilled in 1948, bottled by gordon & macphail, very special

I think Peg enjoyed his 17 yr old rum casked Bruichladdich, he just has a smidgeon left.

I doubt he'll find it again, unless he popped to Bakewell to 'The Wee Dram', but at 50 odd quid a bottle, I'm not surprised its taken him a while to polish it off!

certainly fliiping isn't. I'm up for trying them, but not a lover. Peg really is into his single malts. Found the place we go to, really does get some proper obscure rarities. The fella is brilliant. Just walk in and he starts lining up the samples!! Tiny shop tucked away in a quiet arcade corner.
http://www.weedram.co.uk/

For the usual sort Asda rollbacks are great, Highland park especially in this house. Shame Sainsburys can't do the same with Cardhu :-(

EDIT....ooo dear Starks, your link has the rum cask on there too, same price, but he knows where else to find it now! and far toooooo many others;-)

not much no, he was selling it at 15quid a shot and as i was the only idiot who ever bought one in all the time he had it, one night he jus said "there you go", he was extremely drunk, iv known the guy for years just through going to his pub in the lakes, i was thankful, and i nearly laid an egg when i found out what it was worth, funny thing is iv never seen him since to thank him proper, the pubs been reposessed and he moved on without a trace!

Not a big fan of the peaty Islay's - Laphroig, Bowmore etc.

Speyside is where it's at - Macallan is a fav. Just finished a cask strength Aberlour A'bunadh which was lovely and halfway through a Cardhu 12YO which is also very nice.:)

Peg doesn't like peaty Islays either. In fact I don't bleeeugh! You do have to go through a few, but there are some really nice Islays that aren't.

mmmmmm Cardhu, me thinks I'll be buying myself a bottle to celebrate babba when its born. Its the after smell it leaves on the glass that gets me...never mind the taste, I'll sit n sniff it!

Yes :( I just had a look on a UK whiskey mail order site - oh my god!

I pay roughly 20-30 pounds more than the UK a bottle and that is with the exchange rate being very much in my favour at the moment!

Only problem is that my GF has really got into it as well so now a bottle lasts only half as long

Yep, I'm a fan, currently have a Glen Moray and a St Georges distillery chapter 6 on the go.

Guy I work with is the real buff tho, he has all sorts, I think he is most fond of the Glenfiddich 30 year old and Queen Mary 2

Royal Mile whisky is a good shop if you are ever in the smoke

It is rather special, really glad that I was able to share it with so many people - I think there are a few orgers that were made to reconsider "I dont like whisky" statements :)

Will probably be bringing (if I can make it - depends on me getting a job) something a little less special, but I have a couple of bottles sitting needing drunk...

I'm sporting a bit of a hangover this AM thanks to getting into the whiskey last night: Lagavulin 15y Distillers Edition. Also like the Ardbeg - tastes like liquid campfire smoke (but in a nice way). My Mrs also hates the smell of it, and won't go near me after I've had a drink

Whisky is like people - anything under 16yo, (tho preferably 18yo) should be considered a perversion :p

Apparently (tho may be an urban myth) St Andrews University Whisky Apreciation Society got into some trouble for a t-shirt that read

"St Andrews Whisky-Soc do it with 15 year olds", this was after they had considered and replaced "12 year olds" to "15 year olds" in the name of good taste....

Just been given a small bottle of Lagavulin 16yo by my son, not got into that yet. Currently have a cask strength Laphroig, a Bowmore, a Glenfarclas 15yo and a Balvennie Double Wood on the go.

I recently bought an 18yo Tomatin for a friend and was very impressed by that as well.

It's a cracker...I really like Laphroaig (been drinking it for years), however Caol Ila was really different whilst still a peaty whisky. I bought some by chance on the ferry on the way back from France last year, I'm sure it was a 15yr old though, not a 12.

There is an 18yo fine oak Macallan that I really want to try. Only problem is, it costs around $300 a bottle here! Have to wait till I'm back in the UK for that one. :(

Just bought a bottle of Glenfarclas 105 cask strength and it is lovely. (Also depressingly cheap in the UK)
