I'll have to try and make the Aug 1st meet, got one biker buddies as all my friend have no interest in bikes:(

First i have to fix up my bike, does anyone know a good bike mechanic in the edinburgh area that don't cost an arm and a leg and also a good place to get a bit of spraying done?

Hopefully i'll have it running for the meet.

It's a 2006 sk5 model

After my off the bike an't starting. Lights come on and the dash lights come on but when I turn the key to start it, it wont turn over. I by-passed the starter solenoid and it starts fine, it stays running when i start it this way, after turning it off it wont start though. also I gave it a push start and it started for about 3 sec and then cut off.

I checked all the fuese and they seam to be fine, is there some trip switch or something to reset after a crash?

Hello there.

Aye, there's a tip over switch on the pointys - located near the battery I believe. You need to make sure it's level and in the correct orientation. I don't know too much about it other than that as I own the superior curvy model.;)

Sorry, it's the way we usually identify the different model variations. The 1999 to 2002 models are generally referred to as the "curvy" due to the more rounded shape of the frame and bodywork. The SV had a major makeover from 2003 onwards with the new Fuel Injected models having a more angular look - hence "pointys".

Your pointy has the tip over switch but my curvy doesn't. I know it exists, and moving it causes problems, but I can't help you much other than that. Click the "search" at the top of the page and do an advanced search for "tip over switch". You'll find some previous discussion that should tell you what to look for.

if the off was lhs down check the sidestand sw. also clutch switch prevents starting. tip over sw would stop the bike even if you bypassed the start circuit i think. its designed to stop the bike when it falls over, not prevent it from starting iirc.

Mechanically saltire suzuki know their stuff and good customer service but its a dealer so not the cheapest. dont think they do resprays though.

Big Al on here is a sprayer who works from home, pm him. If you dont get a reply let me know as i think i have his phoe number somewhere.

Must check out those things, do you know where the clutch switch and sidestand switch are. Just around the corner from saltire they seem good, if i can't get it sorted i'll give them a try.

I'm guessing Big Al is good at the spraying, it will be a wk or two before i'll require his services. If I have trouble contacting him I'll let you know, where is he based?

Hello chops9.

The clutch switch is on the underside of the clutch lever, take a look there. There's a connector with two wires running back to the headstock area. Maybe if that's been knocked off, then it wont start.

Sidestand switch is running along the underside of the bike on leftside just where the stand is mounted - it swings down to engage it.

Just had a chance to look at the clutch switch and that was the problem. Bike is working again, although its rough around the edges!

Welcome the the org - had the same problem a few moons back, sidestand switch, had been a bit over zealous with some oil getting rid of the 'creaky' sidestand spring noise/rust and must have got into the switch at the top.

How many failsafe switches does a pointy need!
