hi just recently gone to holland on my 52 curvey, every thing has been fine witht he bike up untill the time i got to holland, was ridding along in some traffic and just went to stop and sort out my swetty crotch when i stalled it.

went to start the bike and nothing, all lights and every thing work on the bike so i went to the side of the road and took the sides of the bike took apart the kill switch and nothing, then looked a the fuses under the seat wiggled to ignition fuse and tried the bike and it started.

****please note while i was taking the pannels of the bike it was out in the sun and it was f*****g hot but i then moved the bike under a bridge before i played with the fuses.********

so with the bike now running put every thing back together and started and stopped the bike a couple of times fine.

drove 50ish miles stopped to fill up with juice and then went to start the bike again and nothing tried the fuses again and kill switch but still nothing.

luckely i got some one to give me a push and it went straight away, so 120ish miles later wnet to fill up with juice again and didnt start again so got a push.

got to where i was going and left the bike untill the morning, got up turned the key and it started fine, i did this a couple of times (i didnt move the bike in any way) 2 hours later tried starting it again and nothing again.

ive been using the bike for 2 months now nearly every day and nothing has happened before, it bumps with just a little push but the ignition switch does nothing, when i tried the bike again in the morning it was very cool then 2 hours later it was about 30 is, could this be aby thing to do with it.

ive taken the kill switch apart again but nothing. the battiery was new 3 months ago and as i said before never had a problem with it, the bike was fine driving to holland in the uk (it was dark and cool) but then in holland in the heat started haveing problems.

if any one has any idears PLEASE let me know asap

thanks ben

In addition to the kill switch, check for loose connections around the clutch and sidestand switches.

Then check the loom around the front of the frame/headstock - curvies had a habit of wearing through the looms around there.

Other than that, you have got breakdown cover haven't you?

Good luck mate, hope you get home safely.

Check the wire running from the ignition button (as mattsv says down past the headstock).

Check the wiring and earth on the lump with rubber boots over terminals at the front/bottom of your engine.

if all wiring and cut out switches are fine, watch out for signs of a failing charging system. a dying regulator can cause intermittent problems before giving up the ghost. might be wise to ride without lights for now to minimsie load.

good luck..

That's a point for some reason I envisaged it not even trying to start. If it seems to be making an effort to start then the above is pretty likely!

As above, it sounds like a mates problem he has with his clutch switch, he now uses a paper clip to bridge the connections on the plug if it doesn't work. i.e. remove connector from clutch switch and bridge the contacts.

Check the battery terminals, mine had a similar fault which turned out to be (very) loose battery terminals

Have you checked the starter switch itself? It's just a little piece of copper that gets pushed against a copule of terminals to complete the starter circuit. I've had to take mine apart at least once to clean up the terminals and copper plate thingy with some mild abrasive paper such as crocus paper etc...

Thanks for the replys guys just a quick up date tried the bike this morning before the sun was on it and it started fine as soon as the sun started hitting the bike fails to start again once again the bike hasent been moved

Does any one know how the kill switch works , does it break the connection to kill the engine or make a connection to kill the engine

Tried bypassing the clutch, batt is nice and tight and the side stand switch has been bypassed

It seams to be a problem with heat but not engine heat as I was on the bike for 3 hours at night and it was fine only in the sun heat it stops working

any one have idears again

Once again thanks for the replys

Does it attempt to start or not? i.e turn over or make any noises?

I have not got a clue but I remember Mr. Hewitt in physics banging on about how heat in a wire increases resistance i.e. the same way a fuse works when it carries too much load it gets hot and melts the wire.

Just wondering if the bike heating up in the sun is causing somewhere in the electrical system (which is already tempramental for some reason) to become warm and cause enough resistance that the bike doesn't want to co-operate? Like you say, when the bike has been running or sat in the sun, it's refusing to start but when it's been in the shade or left overnight it starts fine?

if heat is causing it to fail then regulator sounds the crack. Do the regulator checks if you got a multimeter to prove it but chances are your 3 month battery will need replacing too.
