Lol was only on the restriction with the SV for a while before I could remove it, thats when I changed the exhaust and some other bits and pieces.
I keep thinking about taking mine round the track however I think the SV might struggle when it comes to competing with the R6's and other sports bikes round snetterton
You'd think that, but it doesn't. Passed my test last may and went on a novice only trackday at snetterton 2 months later, didn't find much difference between my SV and the sports 600's on the track obviously everyone was inexperienced trackday wise but with the v-twin torque you can get out of the corners a lot better and down the straight with a bit of slipstreaming i was staying close enough to get past on the brakes. Its definatley worth doing on the SV won't let you down.
EAR novice trackday trip next year at snetterton when the weather picks up anyone????

I'd certainly be interested, how much did it cost you when you did it last? I have heard that you sometimes get pretenders who aren't novices on the novice days which can spoil things a little, what was it like for you?
think it was about £100 for the day but not to sure as it was a gift from my mate for being best man at his wedding.
For someones first trackday i'd recomend a novice only day as i've heard storys of trackdays were theres been to many fast or intermediate riders and they get bumped down to the group below. You still get a few quick riders but it isn't anywhere near as frightening as i thought, It was a bit intimidating when i pitched up at the track with my tank bag with my lunch in and a few tools and there was people there with track bikes and tyre warmers but it was pretty much a case of all the gear and no idea. Think the only bikes that went past me down the straights at snett were a few gixxer 1000 and zx10's.
The marshals are meant to get people who obviously aren't novices of the track.
I'd definatley recommend doing it i didn't realise just how hard you can brake on a bike until then just knowing theres a run of area gives that little bit of confidence to push a little more. wanted to do another this year but just haven't had time.

I'll be getting some leathers (only got textiles right now) in the spring, any time after that so long as I have work and therefore cash and have the time I'm game...I'm sure I'll be bricking myself for the first few laps but I bet you soon get a feel for just how far and fast you can lean into the bends etc...
It would be great to arrange a novices day out for anyone on here!
my two aims for the trackday was
1 don't fall off
2 overtake at least 1 person.
you all go out in a big line behind the instructors for the first few laps with no overtaking just to help you get an idea of where the track goes then you head into the pits and are released back to the track in groups of about 10.
First proper lap out i followed the couple of bike in front all the way round then down then coming up to the first corner again they started braking fairly early i pulled to the inside and went straight past about 4 bikes in one go after that the nerves of being inexperienced went and i don't think i stopped smilling all day.

Dates won't be up as Snetterton will be under going a big referb and track developments. Looks very good but won't be ready until next season, so they say. I've been looking.

I virtually love you and your posts Reeder and will always asscoiate your name with a mental image of a 5'6 cucumber dildo, how can that not make a girl grin :p
As for track days, count me in cos im hoping to be back on two wheels early into the new year. Two faves at the moment are daytona 955 or sv thou. I love the daytonas but think they might be a smidge on the heavy side for me and with the svthou id get the best of both worlds, the power i had with the tt600 and the v-twin awesome-ness so at the moment thats the way im inclined. Tomorrow im gonna track both down and have a sit on them :-)

I treated my bike to a thorough wash today as well as some ACF-50 and some Mer polish...I think I was a tad excessive with the acf  I left the engine running to smoke off the exhausts and got quite a lot of smoke off the bike, upset the neighbours  The front forks got coated in the stuff thanks to the smoke too...at least I know my bike is well protected now :)
edit: and so far my brakes still work ;)

I washed my bike last night and coated it in ACF50 today, didn't get as much smoke as I was hoping for! ;)
Got some handguards for a DL650 delivered today - just installed them and they're a perfect fit. They don't look as bad as I thought they might, you could mistake them for a standard part! Desperate measures were needed as I did the 40 mile commute to work on Monday and whilst the heated grips kept my hands warm the tip of my thumb nearly went blue...
I think I was a bit enthusiastic when tightening the left hand bar end, I can hear the rubber seal moving around inside the bar when I try to unscrew it :( Not sure how I'm going to get them off when the summer comes!

I am about to get some heated grips, oxford ones by any chance?
The handguards are a damn good idea too! How much did they set you back?
Oh, I think I've been meaning to ask anyone in the know...do you know of anything that can help with a visor for the seriously bad glare I get at night from oncoming cars, especially those b**tards who install brighter bulbs and HIDs! I have a Shoei lid with a pinhole thingy
I say that but that's another I want to do, the dipped lights on the SV are just plan sh1te for B roads...I am tempted to leave my lights on full beam and sod everyone else! It's damn scary sometimes and pottering around some parts of the roads sub 50 is just plan boring...but safe...
edit: does the air filter make much difference to the bike?

Yep, I bought the Oxford Sport Hot Grips. You'll need to cut a load of plastic off the throttle tube if you want them to fit half decently! Make sure you take some time to route the cables properly, it's worth it in the long run. I ended up taking the airbox off so I had some room to work in.

£50 including delivery. Just rang up the very knowledgeable chap at Redcar Motorcycles and said I wanted some handguards for a Vstrom DL650. Took the bike out for quick ride tonight and they seem to do the job really well.

I don't seem to get that problem - I've got a cheapish HJC lid.

Strangely enough I find the lights on the SV to be pretty good and I do quite a lot of riding on B roads :)

Not massively, I just replaced it as part of the service schedule and thought I may as well get a decent one.

mmmmm, nice....or I just try not to ride at night which is kinda hard this time of year :)
Are you speaking from experience or theory? You can get them for £18, just wondering if it would be a waste of hard earned cash...
